The Escapist Celebrates 20 Years of Pokemon - Update

The 20th anniversary of the Pokemon franchise is coming on February 27th, an The Escapist kicks off a week-long celebration of the pocket monsters.

Pokemon has been around for a long time, 20 years next Saturday to be exact. The pocket monster phenomenon has produced everything from games to a TV show, to all kinds of consumer products. To recognize the impact that Pokemon has had on pop culture, The Escapist begins a week of coverage today.

Its only been 20 years? Feels longer than that. But then I recall how long I've been a gamer and realize its about right. Used to be that I'd balk at the 20 year mark thinking "no way it was that long ago."
Gettin' old, now get off my lawn you kids!

I kinda' want to say something snarky, maybe about every Pokemon game being the same, but I actually really enjoyed Pokemon Blue when I played it as a kid and Pokemon Snap is still amazing!

So...good for you Pokemon.

This is my childhood right here!
I can still remember the 7-year-old me watching the first episode of Pokemon on TV with my littlebrother :D

Fuck, I'm old.

But, I'm really surprised that Pokemon has lasted this long and is still going strong. That was my childhood right there and I remember playing Blue when I got home from school, and watching the show. OG Pokemon was the shit.
