No Lizzy it did not.

Whatever Zelda did, the Ultima games already done it bigger and badder.

I mean look at the map for Ultima 4 alone:

If anything it showcases how much bigger an influance the Ultima games had on gaming.

The one thing I am kinda dissipointed when it comes to the indie scene is that there are 2D Zelda Clones.

But no one attempts a Zelda clone of the 3D games. Which I found to be much better.

Even Dragon Quest/Warrior I and Final Fantasy I, which while both being inspired by Ultima and also Wizardry had a lot to contribute to both the adventure and RPG genres themselves. I'd say Ultima, Wizardry, DQ. FF and LoZ all had a part in changing and majorly impacting video games, just some more than others.

I was mostly thinking of Zelda 1 on the NES when I made that comment.

I mean by the time it came out we already had Akalabeth to Ultima 4.

And the King's Quest games.

But Zelda to me went its own way as the games progressed.

Alas, I was never a Nintendo kid, so I never played this. However, as a youthful member of the Commodore 64 Master Race, I was privileged to have use of the save function long before it arrived on console shores with this game. In that regard, its revolutionary nature may be slightly overstated.
