Batman: Return to Arkham Finally Officially Announced by Warner

//cdn.themis-media.com/media/global/images/library/deriv/1322/1322666.jpgThe long-rumored Batman: Return to Arkham remaster has finally been officially confirmed.

Back in April, rumors began to swirl [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/167209-Batman-Arkham-Collection-Leaked-Coming-Soon] about a remastered version of the Batman: Arkham games. Today, Warner made the remaster official with an announcement and a new trailer.

The new title will contain both Batman: Arkham Asylum (2009) and Batman: Arkham City (2011). Both games are being remastered by Virtuos using Unreal Engine 4. Warner's press release says this will bring "improved graphics, as well as upgraded models, environments, lighting, effects and shaders." Also included will all DLC for both games, as well as the Game of the Year Edition bonuses.

Basically, it's the ultimate edition of both games.

Conspicuously absent and unmentioned in the press release is Batman: Arkham Origins - the prequel designed by Warner Bros. Games Montreal. While it didn't receive the glowing praise that Rocksteady's entries in the series did, Origins was still a fairly solid title, and its absence is notable.

Batman: Return to Arkham will launch on July 26 for PS4 and Xbox One, and will run $49.99.

It feels weird seeing remasters of games that I played when they were new.

I mean, Arkham City came out in 2011. Maybe I'm getting old, but that still feels relatively recent to me. I certainly wouldn't consider it an old game, or even a middle-aged game.

I think Arkham Asylum is the one getting the biggest changes. While the game is still sold, the facial animations are weird, the mouth moves yet no expression on the face at all apart from a blank stare, been playing it recently and compared to Origins it's very weird indeed.

City will just have a graphic buff and that's it i'd imagine.

Well at least it seems they aren't gonna pretend like they care about PC this time.

mmmn, I really wanted to buy Arkham knight for my PC... I wanted to finish the Trilogy.

But with all the terrible reports coming in and people advising it's STILL not fixed (and may never truly be fixed) I just daren't at the moment.

Which is INSANE. Regardless of how small we are compared to the console market, they have to be losing out on millions of income from the game and the DLC which could be sold with it.

I refuse to belive that, even if rocksteady put their entire team on it to repair the game, it'd not make money... especially with the correct kind of marketing (like the joker laughing at the viewer about how good his latest joke was, only for a batarang to knock him out and them batman lean across and into the picture and pretty much go "Who's laughing now?" and then "Batman Arkham knight: PC reborn" or something.

(sighs) Crazy... just crazy...

Sooo... Arkham City likely won't be BC for XB1 anytime soon, then? These kinds of peculiarly contemporary 'remasters' are conservatively done to make easy money, so it's not in their opportunistic, exploitative interests to allow people to play the game as BC.

I would really like to play City again, as I feel it was one of the best games of last gen (even if I'm not keen on Batman or his universe), but I'm not shelling out for this 'remaster' so damn soon.

I find the lack of arkham knight being included way more noteworthy than origins being left out. At that point they aren't even pretending it's anything other than a cash grab.

This is very disappointing, as they could have used this as an excuse to properly port knight over to pc while coming out with an ultimate collection for all of the games. I'd have paid a significant amount of money for a collection like that on pc.

No, you're right. I don't understand how people can drum up enough nostalgia for something that came out just a few years ago to feel justified in paying for the same game a second time. Anyone who wanted to replay these games could just... replay them.

I was going to echo disappointment over seeing no fixed Arkham Knight, but then I realized this isn't coming to PC. Wow... First they jump ship on the original and now are pretending the PC doesn't exist. Poor Rocksteady... I can't imagine having to be owned by WB.

They're going after the ones who have a PS4 and Xbox1 right? So, esentially, using the newer engine to being it to PC parity without the strain being too much on the newer consoles. At least thats how it appears. Doesn't look any better than the original PC version at max.

They couldn't sell it for more than $20 on the PC and even then there's a big question whether enough PC gamers would want to buy it to justify the expenses of porting to PC.

The first time I played Arkham City was when it launched on the Wii U so it seems really weird to get a remaster of that already. At least with Halo 2...Yeah, I played it new but I was still in High School when it was new and despite what my brain keeps trying to tell me to the contrary, that was a decade + ago. I don't ever really see myself getting this unless it's a gift...of course I still don't have a PS4 so eh...Any word on Arkham Knight Complete edition yet? I'm curious to see if WB have the Balls to call it the "Game of the Year Edition".

Am all Batmanned the hell out after Arkham knight. Too much Batman for me, thanks. I don't get enough vitamin D as it is, i don't need some fictional character sapping what little light i have left to photosythesise happiness with.

The faces (looking at jokers) looks a lot more detailed like an actual face, as aposed to a head with a moving mouth and no emotion in the face at all.

As i said above, Asylum seems to have had more done to it, character model wise and much better graphics, City will be just a straight up port and will look more shiny.

Wouldn't be surprised if Asylums fighting had been changed to allow the Batclaw and batarangs to be used during combat (like u can in city where u can pull someone towards you, jump to them and wack them to floor, or throwing batarangs to knock someone out)

Well, Arkham Knight is already on the PS4... So, there would be no point to bundle that game with anything else especially when it hasn't already been a full year and a half since it's original release... Also, it's a waste of funds, I'm assuming... :p

OT: I don't think Deathstroke would be happy about this... Then again, I hear Calendar Man is having a field day in his cell...

Other than that, I guess this benefits those that haven't played the first two games... Still, I'l wait for the Complete Arkham Collection...

I think these games look just as good as some modern games today. The remastering is WB trying to smooth over the fiasco of the last two games. I will bet real money that they find some way to screw the remastering up.

Can only HIHGHLY recommend playing Arkham Knight!
Was an awesome closing chapter the series.

I played it on PC since release and didn't have one issue.
Had a good handful of friends pick it up in the past few months who haven't reported any issues on the PC version...
