Rocket League Cross-Network Play Lets PC And Xbox One Users Play Together

PC players can now play with both PS4 and Xbox One Rocket League players... just not at the same time.

As promised [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/166838-Microsoft-Cross-Platform-Could-Link-PS4-and-Xbox-One], cross-play has come to the PC and Xbox One versions of Rocket League, allowing players on both platforms to play together in harmony. Fans of the game will know that the PS4 version of the game has actually had cross-play for quite some time, which puts us in the incredibly strange position of PC players being able to play the game with both PS4 and Xbox One players... just not at the same time.

The reason? Sony has still neglected to accept claims that the technology is all ready [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/167124-Microsoft-Says-Its-Ready-for-Xbox-One-PS-Cross-Play], and the fact that PC gamers can play with both platforms right now basically confirms that we are just waiting on Sony approval to "flick the switch".

As for the Xbox One/PC cross-play, Rocket League is now the first-ever Xbox One game to support cross-network play with a Steam PC game. Players can toggle cross-network play on or off with an easy-to-find check box in the Options menu. There's also a new patch for the game [http://www.rocketleaguegame.com/news/2016/05/patch-notes-v1-18-title-update-6/] which adds the feature, alongside some small balance changes.

I think that it is really hard not to look at Sony as "the bad guy" in this scenario, although I'm not fully aware of all the behind-the-scenes stuff going on. Let's hope it gets sorted out soon, because a world where players on all three platforms can play the same games together is alright with me!

Sony agreeing to cross play with Xbone is like a hotel allowing a dirty hobo to use the penthouse bathroom. I still hope they have the goodwill in them to do it though.

Microsoft was the first to not allow crossplay, so I refuse to blame Sony for this.

I don't know if anyone can answer this but let's say hypothetically that my buddy has the PC version of Rocket League and I am hypothetically considering buying the Xbox One version because I think Rocket League looks like a blast but I would hypothetically get bored with it if I had no one to play it with.

Would we be able to join a party or whatever you do in that game to always play with each other? Hypothetically speaking?

Nope you can play private matches together and you can be randomly matched up together but you can't party up together.

It's worth noting if anyone is interested in Rocket League that it's part of the June Humble Monthly Bundle. There's a few days left to get in on it. $12 for Rocket League now and the rest of the bundle when it gets released.

These two companies are pretty interdependent, so I doubt there's much in the way of "bad will" blocking them.
