Resident Evil 4 Headed to PS4 and Xbox One in August

//cdn.themis-media.com/media/global/images/library/deriv/1335/1335110.jpgResident Evil 4, widely thought to be the best game in the series, is coming to PS4 and Xbox One.

Since its release in 2005, Resident Evil 4 has been highly regarded among gamers as the best of the Resident Evil games. It was the game that pioneered the over-the-shoulder camera view that has become so prevalent in the third-person shooter genre. It won a number of Game of the Year awards in 2005, and has appeared on multiple platforms since then.

On August 30, Resident Evil 4 will land on the PS4 and Xbox One. The re-release will include all the bonus content that was released for the game, as well as the New Game Plus and Mercenaries Mode options.

The announcement came on Resident Evil 7 [http://www.capcom-unity.com/timturi/blog/2016/07/07/resident-evil-4-arrives-on-ps4xbox-one-august-30]. If you have a PS4 with PS Plus and want to check out RE7, there's a free demo available.

GC.
PS2 remaster.
PC port.
Wii dumbed down port.
PC enhanced port.
Mobile incredibly dumbed down port.
PS3 and Xbox 360 enhanced port.

Seriously Capcom? How much longer are you going to milk RE4? You can play it on your phone, and on a 6 year old computer (and it's cheap there!). Why would anyone buy another remaster on the PS4 and XBone, especially when the features you're touting are basically the same ones from the PS2 remaster, and those have been on every enhanced port since?

I had this on the Wii and completed it during my hospital stay in their "games room." Ahh, such fond memories of pain and suffering. *Stares wistfully into the sky*

That's ambivalence, kiddos! Learn to use it wisely. ;p

They have long since relegated to recycling their own farts for sustenance, without shame. Which is why the Resi 7 demo was such a relief that they are at least working on something "new" for once.

In general, I've promised myself to stop re-buying remasters. This is a good game, but there are already so many places to play it. And I'm telling myself, stop re-buying a PS3 game remastered for PS4. Now I'd put a PS2 game on my PS4!?!? There's plenty of things made specifically for the PS4 to keep me busy.

But, if for some reason, there is no other way for someone to play this game, they could do worse. Again, not a bad game.

I'm not saying it's a bad game, I'm just saying everybody should have a way to play this game already. This brings nothing new to the table.
Heck, bring something OLD to the table - Breath of Fire, Mega Man, Onimusha, Final Fight, ANYTHING. So many beloved franchises that are basically dead now, and for what? So they can release the same game they have been releasing every 2 years for the past decade now? It's the same reaction I've had to Angry Birds, only with Capcom, it's like seeing a titan fall.

Do I really want to buy this game again? I have the PS2 and the PS3 versions, got all the trophies on the PS3, and I'm pretty skilled at it now.
I don't know. Depends on the price, and if I have some left over money hanging out in my PSN wallet. It's a fun game, but three copies might be a bit much for me.

So is this based off of the recent PC version or the PS360 versions? If the latter, isn't there very little point other than just having it on more platforms?

Actually, it's more like:
GC
PS2 badport
PC Terribad port
Wii fun port
PC best port
Mobile "Why even fucking bother?" port
PS360 "Why didn't they update the textures on pickup?" port

You've missed how many times they've re-released the first Resident Evil, then?

Also, not everybody has a way to play it, because not everybody plays games on their PC or holds on to their old systems. Or people who have held on to their old systems might prefer not needing to actually keep them out and about due to limitations on space or wiring, especially if it's only for a select few games that they can now play on other systems as well.

It brings the same thing that any multi-system port ever brings to the table; it allows somebody another way of potentially playing a game. You might as well say that no games should ever release on anything except the PC.

Honestly, I feel the same. Why another port of one of Capcoms most ported games? I'm pretty sure everyone who wants to play it has done so. I could see making a Resident Evil Collection that includes it among other games, but why port this particular game once again? Are they that hard up for money?

I realized that after I got the HD remaster thru Steam via Humble Bundle that I've played this game so much back when it was new that I nearly completed it in a few hours with little effort. I still love it and may end up getting it because I collect things, but it'll most likely be on sale/clearance before I drop dimes on it.

First of all, I'm attacking Capcom's practices. The fact that they are doing that same thing blatantly with another game doesn't absolve them. Also, the first Resident Evil is older, so it has more room for improvement and "remastering" (example: audio and dialogue), although even that isn't a good excuse.

Now, I'd prefer new, original games than remakes/ports any time. I also don't think that "not playing games on the PC" is a valid excuse, seeing as there are plans for XBone KB/M adapter and compatibility, and consoles are becoming modular by the moment - but that's only my opinion.

Speaking of the core issue, "bringing RE4 to a new audience" doesn't take in my opinion. It has been released on every platform in the last 11 years, apart from the original XBox - and it was considered a must have at every one of them. EVERYONE had a chance to play it and replay it, and so the only new audience it targets is the people who have only had current gen consoles in their entire lifetime, and this includes a functional PC from the last decade. And now we've narrowed it down so badly it doesn't seem likely it targets them - it probably just targets old customers for a repurchase.

Think that instead of the endless ports and remasters you could have Capcom put efforts into something better. It has the franchises - heck, it even tries to capitalize by ports things that never sold that well to begin with, like Okami. Wouldn't it be better if instead of rehashing the same game they'd make a new one in the same vein of the original? Even a straight up sequel would be better. Everything is better than paying twice for the same experience.

On the contrary, my point was that if you're aware of how many times they've re-ported Resident Evil, 4 should hardly be surprising at this point, so only getting mad about it now just seems a bit delayed.

Now, I'd prefer new, original games than remakes/ports any time. I also don't think that "not playing games on the PC" is a valid excuse, seeing as there are plans for XBone KB/M adapter and compatibility, and consoles are becoming modular by the moment - but that's only my opinion.
For the first point, porting games rarely takes resources away from creating new games. Especially for companies as large as Capcom. For the second point, I fail to see how consoles becoming more like PCs means anything for people who don't play games on PCs? They still don't play games on PCs.

Speaking of the core issue, "bringing RE4 to a new audience" doesn't take in my opinion. It has been released on every platform in the last 11 years, apart from the original XBox - and it was considered a must have at every one of them. No, EVERYONE didn't have a chance to play it. There are plenty of people who didn't have Gamecubes, or Playstations, or just weren't at an age at which they were interested or allowed to purchase games like Resident Evil. The re-release for the PS3/Xbox 360 came out in time to capitalize on interest in the upcoming Resident Evil 6, as 5 far outsold 4. 6 then outsold 5, so clearly there's still an audience for Resident Evil games who... haven't played all of the Resident Evil games.

I'll grant the last part - you can argue that that's likely not the audience Capcom is actually aiming for, because it's probably not huge, but to say it straight up doesn't exist pretty much ignores every single person who wasn't in your exact position for the past decade.

Again, these ports are often done by very small teams at very small cost. They are not preventing Capcom or any other company from putting money into other projects as well. Except for Konami, because Konami apparently forgot how to business.

I'll let my friend know since he's getting [desparate for] a PS4 and he need more games for that system in question...

Other than that, it sounds like they're using the PC version as the bases for this release...http://media2.giphy.com/media/IeLOBZb7ZdQ1G/giphy.gif

Capcom remasters an old game for a newer platform, surprising no one. Why create something new when when they can just re-export the old?
