More Pokemon are Getting Pokemon Sun and Moon Makeovers

The latest issue of CoroCoro shows off more Pokemon Sun and Moon variants, as well as some new monsters.

Earlier this month [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/168070-Pokemon-Sun-and-Moon-Features-a-New-Take-on-Classic-Pokemon#&gid=gallery_6369&pid=1] it was revealed that a number of classic Pokemon would be getting a makeover for the upcoming release of Pokemon Sun and Pokemon Moon, with a video introducing ice variants of Vulpix, Ninetales, Sandshrew, and Sandslash, along with a much taller Exeggutor. According to the press release, this was the result of some Pokemon adapting to the "distinctive microclimates of the Alola region," with the new versions referred to as "regional variants."

"After taking root in the Alola region, they live like native Pokemon. These regional variant Pokemon can have different appearances and types, and their way of living can also differ from that of the forms previously known."

In the latest issue of CoroCoro (via Serebii [http://serebii.net/news/2016/09-August-2016.shtml]), it was revealed that both Meowth and Marowak will also be receiving Alola makeovers for the upcoming games. Alolan Meowth is a dark type, while Alolan Marowak is a fire/ghost type.

In addition to the new variants, some new monsters were revealed in the newest issue. The first pair are sandcastle-style ghost/ground types, which in Japan are named Sunabaa and Shirodesuna. Next up is the water-type Yowashi, which then transforms into a larger school of fish.

The issue also gave us a look at the pre-evolution form of recently revealed Bewear along with antagonists Team Skull.

A Fire/Ghost Marowak? Sign me the f*ck up! :D

And is that seriously a sandcastle Pokemon? Maybe this is why they're doing the re-model thing with the gen 1 mons - they have lots of great ideas left for the series, just not for actual new Pokemon.

It sounds like a great idea, but honestly, as someone who stopped after gen III, all this new shit is kinda overwhelming and kinda turns me off the game.

I've got to say, this "The same as before but white" stuff is new low in creativity. It's like pushing the "Shiny" version as a whole new evolution. If half of these now Alola version are just pallet swaps it's going to be really disappointing.

I dunno, I genuinely like it. Reminds me of Desertman from Megaman Battle Network. Probably one of my favs from this gen.

Personally, I think the Webarebearscarebear and dragon Exeggutor are in the "so bad they're good" category.

A lot of players have been pushing for region specific forms for a while.

I mean, why would Pokemon not differ from country to country? The Marowaks in the Japan based regions wouldn't look anything like a Marowak in a Hawaii based region.

Besides, it appeals (panders) to the people who exclaim "THE DESIGNS HAVE BEEN SHIT SINCE GEN 1".

I think the chances are that the alolan forms are replacing Mega evolutions in this gen. As in, instead of seeing about 70ish new Pokemon and 30ish Mega evolutions. We're going to see 70ish new Pokemon and 30ish alolan forms.
And that would be fine if it were just the same pokemon from different regions looking different, but that's not what's happening. These are entirely new creatures with different types.

Need a new pokemon for your game? Color Vulpix white and make it ice. Color Sandslash white and make it ice. Color Meowth white and... is it going to be ice too?

And can we talk about why the tropical island versions of these classic pokemon are colorless ice types? You'd think this is when you'd make them more colorful and give them water, fire, or ground(sand) powers. Better gen 1's to do this too would be a more colorful and type different: Seel/dewgong, shellder/cloyster, Krabby/Kingler, horsea/seadra, staryu/starmie, Caterpie/metapod/butterfree, or maybe give Farfetched a little love for once.

We have Hypno, a heavily implied pedophile, Mismagius who loves giving nightmares, Banette, it searches and kills the owner of the abandoned doll, Drifloon, it takes kids to heaven (literally), Trevenant, it helps kids get lost in the woods and a sentient ghost sandcastle who swallows things like that hole in Star Wars (seriously, what is it doing to that Pikachu?), why do you hate kids Game Freak?

Meowth looks like the cat-thing from the new Dragonball, that is not a compliment, Marowak is now the fire juggler Pok?mon I thought it was going to be a new, a submarine Pok?mon from that school of Finding Nemo and a mini Bewear.

Apparently it's stealing Pikachu's life force so it can turn it's grudges into more of itself.

I just want to know why it's a Ghost-type though, did somebody try to play burying his/her friend in the sand only for a sandstorm to kick in and... OH MY GOD!!!!!

So many designs I don't like. The Sandcastle thing bordering on so bad its good. But I genuinly like the design of Lurantis.

For maximum irony, "Sandstorm" was playing on the radio.
