Master of Orion Officially Launches Later This Month

The reboot of Master of Orion will exit Steam Early Access and officially launch on August 25, developer WG Labs announced today.

WG Labs has announced that the Master of Orion reboot [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/articles/view/video-games/conferences/pax-prime-2015/14496-Master-of-Orion-Preview-PAX-Prime-2015-Wargaming#&gid=gallery_4654&pid=1] will launch on August 25

The standalone game will be available for $30. In addition, a $50 Collector's Edition [https://www.gog.com/game/master_of_orion] is available, and gets you the three original Master of Orion games along with a digital art book, a full orchestral soundtrack, retro pixel ships skins, and an exclusive new race for Collector's Edition owners: the Terran Khanate.

Whether you stick with the game or go for the Collector's Edition, everyone who buys Master of Orion will also walk away with a free copy of Total Annihilation.

"The journey for Master of Orion's reboot has been an amazing one, and now we've approached our destination," said Jacob Beucler, Publishing Product Director for Master of Orion. "Along for the ride was the Master of Orion community, sharing their thoughts and guiding us toward an amazing Master of Orion experience for the new age!"

I've enjoyed the BETA.

I WISH they'd release a physical version.

They will never be able to appease Master of Orion 2 fans, I know because I am one of them. Let us hope whatever they set out to do is its own thing enough to stand on its own and not in the shadow of MoO 2.

Speaking as someone who only first played MoO2 2 years ago, I'd say you're probably right. I find its gameplay stands the test of time amazingly well and giving the game a graphical/UI update and maybe some balance tweaks to give mod would arguably be enough to give modern 4x games a run for their money.

Even if I wasn't a huge MoO2 fan this bundle would be worth it just for Total Annihilation alone.
Considering Total Annihilation alone costs something like 1/4 of the extra cost for the bundle, I question the logic behind that :p

I dunno. I'm still a bit shell-shocked by MoO3... I mean, I loved MoO2 and all but that bad taste in my mouth from the third entry is still there.

True enough. I do believe they stated that this was supposed to be more a remake of the first game, though; which, as you may remember (but should go back and play again anyway) was very different from the MOO2 we know and pledge our eternal allegiance to love.

You do know that GOG exists, right?

Let's see how it goes, I got enough 4x games to sink my teeth in atm, so brand recognition alone isn't going to make me spaze out in fanboyism, I'll need to hear that the game is actually good before my interest is piqued.

Are all the races back or just a few?
I know for a fact elerians ain't coming back so isn't all of them, think it's just the original races of moo1.

If you guys have ipad, check out "Starbase Orion" in the game apps. It is literally a rip off Moo2 in every way possible, just updated, and actually works great with touch controls. The only big difference I can recall is the combat, in this one rather then control individual ships in turn by turn combat, each round you set stances and priorities and watch ships enact your orders.

I wasn't exactly trying to hand out financial pointers, more trying to emphasise the quality of TA by comparison. That having been said, you'll no doubt remember that back in the early 2000's, shortly after Cavedog went under, you were lucky (and I mean lucky) to pick up the complete TA bundle (with Core Contingency and Battle Tactics) for less than ?120. TA was a very highly prized game back in it's day, and I merely thought I'd try and point that out to younger gamers who may have missed the boat first time around - especially as the main article threw out it's inclusion into the MoO bundle almost as an afterthought.
