Fan-made "Revive" Project Breathes New Life into Battlefield 2142

//cdn.themis-media.com/media/global/images/library/deriv/1351/1351992.jpgBattlefield 2142 is back thanks to a fan revival project.

If you're a big-time Battlefield fan, then you're probably already familiar with the Battlefield 2 Revive project. It began as a group of fans who wanted to keep playing after EA shut off the official BF2 servers in 2014. It's been running ever since, and has grown to include leaderboards, and in-game ranking system, and more.

For the last few months, the Revive team has been working on a new game to add to their offering: Battlefield 2142. The futuristic shooter had its official servers turned off a couple of years ago, but it made its triumphant, although unofficial, return on Friday.

As the BF2 Revive project has been running for a couple of years now without drawing the ire of EA, it seems likely that its futuristic cousin will be similarly ignored. If you want to check it out and play a little, you can head over to the Battlefield 2142 Revive site [https://bl2142.co/]. There you can download the new client and see exactly what's involved.

Oh boy oh boy oh boy!

In all seriousness, the chance to play a real round of Titan Mode instead of the half baked version in BF4 is too good to pass up. I hope this is as successful as BF2 revive has been.

2142 was the peak of battlefield IMO. I loved this game to bits!

Remember, regardless of what the scoreboard says, you win if you gib someone with an APC drop pod

Oooo, neat. 2142 was my first Battlefield game so I'm interested to see how it holds up, especially now that I have a real gaming PC to play it on rather than a toaster disguised as a laptop.

O Lord,
Heavenly Host of Pwnage,
Bastion of Killing Sprees,
We ask this of Thee:

Grant us nimble fingers and agile minds,
Precision keystrokes and perfect grenade throws,
And may you bless us always
In our quests for glory.

Grant us low ping and perfect connection,
High performance and divine protection
From red rings and blue screens of death,
Those evils born of hellion's breath.

Grant us silver tongues and razor wit,
And buff our patience just a bit,
For even in the post-game lobby
The battle rages on.

Grant us serenity in the grim and pale,
Even when our teammates fail;
When headshots and killing sprees
Are naught but a fleeting dream.

In any game of any genre
Buff us with thy glory.
Grant us plus one to all attributes
As we pwn in thine holy name.

Amen.

This... is the best news I've heard in months.

I am downloading this puppy now, if anyone wants to play with me by the way I will be using the username "Hamsterkilla"

Time to relive my glory days.

Battlefield 2142 was awesome and probably the best BF. I was honestly hoping for BF2143 instead of WWI BF.

Battlefield 2142 has got to be my favorite large scale FPS game so I'm going to have to give this a go.

Just to make it clear (my first post was perhaps too abstract), BF 2142 was my favorite main stream (aka non-modded) Battlefield experience. I thought there was so much room for expansion in terms of its environments and gameplay (Northern Strike started to scratch the surface of this).

Hell, if EA is dead set on building a narrative driven single player Battlefield game there is no better setting IMHO then 2142s time period. It could explore the political machinations between the 5 or 6 coalitions on the planet (so far only 2 shown and 1 referred to). With all the different factions vying for the little remaining inhabitable land there's no need to develop a primary villain, every side will have a whole spectrum of characters with varying ethics and the same underlying motivation... ensuring that THEIR friends and family get to survive in the harsh world this game is set in. It'd be a great game to try implementing opposing campaigns where you could play a character on one side, witness the atrocities committed by the other side, play the other campaign and see pretty much the same level of brutal and disreputable acts committed by the other faction, and realize that there are no "good" sides.

THIS! I can understand EA wanting to explore a war that hasn't been covered much, but really going into the future provides much more room for storytelling and you don't have to worry about cries of historical inaccuracy.
