Blizzard: No Legacy Server Info at Blizzcon

Blizzard says it is still "discussing the possibility" of legacy servers.

Classic or "Legacy" servers for World of Warcraft have been a bit of a contentious point, ever since Blizzard Matt Kern [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/167113-Blizzard-Sends-Cease-and-Desist-to-Nostalrius-Vanilla-WoW-Private-Server], the ex-Blizzard staffer behind Nostalrius had some talks with the company, which promise to look into the possibility of official Legacy servers. But Blizzard has been pretty quiet on the project for the past few months, and for those of us hoping for a surprise announcement at BlizzCon this year, well, the company has also squashed that hope.

"Hey everyone. We've seen some talk among the community that you might be expecting to hear some news on legacy servers at BlizzCon, and we just wanted to take a moment to let you know that while we're still discussing the possibility, we won't have any updates to share on that until after the show," wrote Blizzard community manager J. Allen Brack on the official forums [http://us.battle.net/forums/en/wow/topic/20749678358].

He continued to say that the past few months have mostly been about prepping World of Warcraft's 7.1 patch [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/168622-World-of-Warcraft-Return-to-Karazhan-October-25#&gid=gallery_6569&pid=1], and preparing for BlizzCon itself. He added that this year's BlizzCon World of Warcraft focus will be all about how the team is committed to bringing players a steady stream of content.

In short: don't hold your breath for Legacy servers. It looks like Blizzard is considering them, but isn't going to release them any time soon.

I wouldn't be surprised to see legacy servers becoming their end-game strategy, like a final expansion to send wow off on.
I mean, financially that makes sense, releasing legacy servers would probably cause a lot of subscribers to not get the latest expansion and keep up with the rest of the player base, however, I also think a lot of the old school players are not willing to wait that long and seek their fix somewhere else.

Glad to see Bluzz has found their own Beyond Good & Evil 2 carrot stick.

'Content'

You keep using that word Blizzard and I don't think it means what you think it means...

They already have. I'm one of them. Private servers m8. By the timeBLizzard gets around to it. they will be late to the party. Like when sega starrted selling emulatored genesis games. Yeah. didn't help that their emulator is actually far behind that of the free emulators that came out a decade before.
