No Man's Sky is Getting a Post-Foundation Update Bug-Fixing Patch

Hello Games rolls out a small bugfixing patch on No Man's Sky's experimental branch.

No Man's Sky has faced harsh criticism since its release in August, with critics alleging false advertising - a charge Hello Games has Foundation Update [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/168931-Advertising-Standards-Hello-Games-Did-Not-Mislead-Consumers-with-No-Mans-Sky], which added a slew of new features, including base-building, Survival and Creative modes, freighters, and more.

In a post today [http://steamcommunity.com/app/275850/discussions/0/154642447914068500/], the studio announced a smaller patch, which will focus on bug fixes. The patch is currently available on the experimental branch, and will be added to the live game "when we're comfortable that these fixes are stable."

Hello acknowledges that the patch "won't fix everything," and asks anyone trying it out to continue to report issues via the bug form here [https://hellogames.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/requests/new?ticket_form_id=167605].

You can check out the full patch notes below:

- Following reports of some people experiencing issues with the game while unsupported mods are installed, we've added mod detection which will show a warning screen on loading when mods are detected. A click or button press will dismiss this screen.

- Allowed remapping of the build menu and quick menu commands to support Azerty keyboards.

- Fixed an issue which, in some rare cases, prevented NPCs from giving you mission critical dialogue.

- Fixed a bug which could cause core items to be transferred from exosuit inventory to starship inventory. Note: this is a preventative fix and won't fix the issue for those who have already experienced this bug. We have a cure for those who have experienced on the way, it'll be released in our next patch.

- Following player feedback, we have clarified messaging when being given tech that you already know.

- Fixed a number of rare crashes (if you continue to experience crashes, please send a crash report and include your crash dumps).

- Fix for monitor detection on PCs with 3rd party remote desktop or screen sharing applications.

- Running the game via the .exe file should no longer give Steam Init errors.

This melted my brain. If a person knows they have mods installed, what is the point of the game telling them they have mods installed?

They need to get on actual multiplayer asap.
Space Stations have Teleportation now which allows near instant system-to-system warping. It's very likely this may be a key mechanic in setting up Multiplayer, alongside the fact that Freighter's apparently support multiple Starships just like Space Stations.

They said it was an update to 'lay the foundation for future content', so as someone who was won back over by the gameplay presented in the Foundation update... I hope we're looking at the game slowly becoming what was actually promised and that the drama won't have been all for naught.

A patch update is not news. C'mon.
Yeah, I gotta go with this one. Big update expansion style patches, sure. I'll even dignify the slew of Overwatch New Map/Hero stuff, as sick of it as I've been for months now.

A minor hotfix patch being newsworthy? Stretching like crazy. These aren't even widespread hot-button issues on No Man's sky's reddit. Hell, Paragon's got a huge update patch coming this week that rebalances the whole game and completely redoes the map if we really want to report on random updates.

Even if one was looking to pull in clicks while No Man's Sky is a hot topic, review the Foundation update features, or write an Opinion column on whether Hello Games can redeem itself or something.
