Resolution Wars: Mass Effect Andromeda 1080p on PS4, 900p on XB1

Mass Effect Andromeda will take advantage of the PS4 Pro to run at 1800p with checkerboard rendering.

In the latest saga of the Resolution Wars, general manager for BioWare Aaryn Flynn has stated Mass Effect Andromeda [http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=227589323&postcount=198] will run at 1080p on PS4, and just 900p on Xbox One. He also confirmed that the game would be taking advantage of the PS4 Pro to run at 1800p - which is a bit shy of the native 2160p which is the standard for 4K gaming. Both console versions of the game will run at 30fps.

"Last I checked, we were like other Frostbite games on PS4 and XBox One - 1080p and 900p respectively. All are at 30 fps. PC has uncapped framerate. I think we've even gotten over the 30 fps cap in cutscenes, but I'll double-check in the next couple of weeks," wrote Flynn in the post.

The good news takeaway from this is that the PC version's framerate is uncapped. I know that should pretty much be a no-brainier these days but thanks to games like Mafia 3 [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/168569-Mafia-III-30-FPS-Lock-on-PC] it's now a question that we have to ask. Flynn did also neglect to comment on the game's PS4 Pro framerate. We are assuming the lower resolution means they are aiming for a 60fps rate.

Meanwhile, the Nintendo Switch version of the game will run at 0p/0fps because it doesn't exist [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/169165-Mass-Effect-Andromeda-no-Switch-Version#&gid=gallery_6745&pid=1].

I'd rather play at 720P 60 FPS than 1080 at 30. Guess I'll have to get the PC port so i can play it at 1080 60.

So in other words, for the PC it will run on a toaster? Eh, so long as it runs efficiently.

Mass Effect 2 ran amazingly on my potato of a laptop all those years ago. Hopefully this one is as well optimized.

Oh, and obligatory Fuck the PS4 Pro.

Frostbite powered games do tend to run pretty good on PCs. Though they haven't released to system requirements yet. I would think at or about Battlefield 1.

I wonder if you'll get true 4K out of the Scorpio.

Isn't the XB1S more powerful than a normal PS4 (not pro) ? I'm surprised that an S isn't matching the 1080P of a regular PS4.

Errrrmm at 1800p is 30fps(ish) for sure, ps4Pro isn't 4 times XboxOne or (1800/1080)*(60/30)=3,3 times better than a ps4 (and that even is assuming 1920 horiz res, not 3840)

When it gets between 900p and 1080p, I barely notice a difference. Where the difference comes from is 720p and 1080p, ESPECIALLY with shoddy or low anti-aliasing, or FXAA where everything becomes blurry city.

Also I refuse to buy another PS4 for 4k.

I would assume 30fps like the other versions, if they had it running at 60 EA and Bioware would be screaming it from the tops of mountains.

Also 1800p at 60fps sounds extremely optimistic for a PS4pro.

I'm not sure why they would aim to have 60fps in the cutscenes. The jumps between 30 and 60 is going to be extremely jarring, better to run at 30 all the time than run at 60 some of the time.

He was talking about the PC version.
Bland, uninteresting cutscenes in smooth 60 fps to blend seamesly with bland uninteresting player action at 60+ fps

The One S is only marginally more powerful than a regular one. It provided 4K support for TV/movies, but still only upscales the games. It also provides the HDR support that is native to the regular PS4 once they patched it in. I'm not sure how it compares to the regular PS4, but considering it only has increased processing power and not improved graphics support I would imagine it's largely irrelevant. Anyone wanting proper 4K Xbox gaming is going to be waiting for the Scorpio. And Phil Spencer has indicated it should deliver native 4K, but we'll have to see what that means. There's no indication that it will be 4k at 60 FPS.

I will buy it on all 3 platforms like the first 3!
Phew, someone loonier than me! Which is difficult as I had 1 for 360, but 2 and 3 for both PC and PS3. Very tempted to get 3 for the Wii U... cuz it's what I do. You'll have to post your opinion/compare contrast. Do you do that sort of thing for youtube? Links?

I feel vindicated in not getting the S. Or the Pro. And, even though I got my 4K less than 2 years ago, it does not have HDR. Dang it. And my wife says she doesn't care how nuts I am, she will end me if I get a new TV already. The sacrifices I make.

I have given her advance warning: I'm getting the Scorpio (as long as it is under $500 and supports USB 3.0 external hard drive for storage. Though, I hear Microsoft has a new USB. Were they smart, it would have that for HD support.)

Just upgraded my PC so I can play this on Ultra!

1080p/60+ fps (potentially 4K down the line if I get a new monitor too)
