Gee, I wonder which one Marter will pick as the worst. He's been keeping his cards so close to his chest on this one. ;)

The only one I am going to disagree with you on is the only movie I saw on the list. Masterminds. This was based on a true story. So, I can imagine that some of the most outrageous things that happened in the movie actually happened. The cast is really good. Even though, Kate McKinnon did stretch the believability of her character. I don't think Masterminds was a great movie. It did have go through a lot more issues than most movies to even get released. So, I think that was the reason it didn't get a better reception than it should.

Keep in mind that 'based on a true story' is studio speak for someone who isn't a screen writer told us about this then we stopped listening. It doesn't mean that anything in the movie was actually what happened, usually the opposite.

Thankfully didn't see any of these movies, so my top five worst are still:

5: The Wait

4: Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice

3: Pride and Prejudice and Zombies

2: The Huntsman: Winter's War

1: The Angry Birds Movie

Those who looked at my best/worst list of 2016 will see that I've removed La La Land. Thinking about it further, I still don't like the film much, but looking at the five films here, I don't think it's so bad that it belongs in their company.

I was actually surprised - I'd thought that the worst entry would be Norm of the North. I'd forgotten that Wild Life even existed.

Also hahaha two animated movies made it onto the list ... oh boy. Seems like animators should ask tips from Pixar before attempting any movie related to 3D animation.
Eh, not necessarily. Consensus seems to be that Norm/Wild Life are lacklustre, but while Pixar and Disney are at the top of the western animation pile these days, there's plenty of alternatives that are at least decent. Looking at the animated films I saw in 2016 (confining that to ones that had a cinema release), I'd rank them as:

8: The Angry Birds Movie

7: My Little Pony: Equestria Girls: The Legend of Everfree

6: The Secret Life of Pets

5: Kung Fu Panda 3

4: The Peanuts Movie

3: Moana

2: Finding Dory

1: Zootopia

Now, entries 8-6 aren't worth anyone's time, and entries 1-3 are all Disney/Pixar, but entries 4 and 5 range from "good" to "okay, but still enjoyable." And I saw Sing recently, which, if I had seen it in 2016, would probably go between Moana and Peanuts. Plus that doesn't include non-cinema releases. In addition to Blizzard's Overwatch shorts (yes, I'm including them), we did get indie gems like "Planet Unknown" for instance.

Or, in other words, if Disney and Pixar are at tier 1, and the likes of Norm/Wild Life are at tier 3, then there's still a lot of tier 2 stuff that deserves a look.

I understand that. They had the guy, who the movie is based on, working as a technical advisor. This was a news story I remember reading about when it happened.

This is just the shortlist. I don't think anything matches the depths of his contempt for Norm of the North.

Arrival should be topping this list.

Biggest letdown.
Arrival is perfectly good. At worst, it's an impeccably directed bad script.

Um, no, not really. Suicide Squad isn't a good film per se, but nor is it a bad one. It's a very enjoyable film that surpasses the sum of its disconnected parts. Batman v Superman isn't just bad, it's not even an enjoyable bad (ala Gods of Egypt).

Suicide Squad is worse than Ghostbusters, mind you, which actually turned out to be pretty good.

'Fraid not. Not by choice, mind you - I actually did turn up to see the film, but it had started by the time I arrived. I reasoned that I'd get another chance to see it soon (since a lot of the films I see are based on show-times in relation to when I get off work).

Before I knew it, it had ended its theatrical run. :(

This is a different scale; the movies that only somebody contractually obliged to would watch.

I'll open myself to criticism by announcing that 'Brothers Grimsby' was so outrageous that I had an amazing time watching it.
Yes, it's the lowest form of comedy possible, but the completely deranged scenario and topping itself constantly made it a fantastic experence.
If you open your mind and shut off your brain brain at the same time.

To all who claim that Ghostbusters, BvS:DoJ and/or Suicide Squad should be on this list, just keep in mind that there are indeed worse films.

If you want to say that wasted potential makes these movies the worst of the year, then yeah. But many really enjoyed Suicide Squad, at least more than any other of these three. BvS:DoJ had a rather redeeming Blue Ray release.

Ghostbusters on the other hand just dragged everything into the mud it came in contact with and keeps on decaying and bothering almost everyone with its odor. Dude, if you personally enjoy this movie, keep on enjoying it. In general though, it was the most mediocre or worse movie of these three. And it had no redemption of any impact whatsoever after its theatrical run.

Debatable.

Going by Rotten Tomatoes, according to critics, Ghostbusters>BvS>Suicide Squad, while for audiences, BvS>Suicide Squad>Ghostbusters (BvS and SS are practically equal in both rankings). So, going by numbers, I'm willing to concede that more people like the DC films than Ghostbusters.

On the other hand, I AM skeptical about the idea of BvS getting redeemed in the extended cut. I've heard some people say it makes the film better, some say it doesn't, others that the improvement is academic to the overall assessment.

I'd actually say that people were dragging Ghostbusters through the mud rather than it being the other way round. The tragedy of Ghostbusters is that it'll probably be remembered for what happened before its release rather than the release itself - the moment where the Internet reached a perfect storm of communal outrage. Also, as far as cultural impact goes, it's not really fair to compare it against DC films. Superhero films are all the rage right now, and that's filtered down all the way to kids growing up today (judging by the amount of superhero stuff I see in children's/junior fiction at least). In contrast, at least in my experience, Ghostbusters has never been that big of a thing. As in, most people will have at least heard of the movie, but...well, let me put it this way. Everyone in the Western world will have at least heard of Batman or Superman. If I mention "Slimer" or "Zool" or "Stay Puff Marshmellow Man" to the average joe, I'll probably get awkward silence at least half of the time.

Plus, despite Sony's hopes, I can't really call Ghostbusters 2016 a franchise movie, because it's effectively separate from every Ghostbuster continuity that's come before it, whereas the DCEU is an ongoing thing. So, while I'm not saying the film is above criticism, I do think it's disingenuous to put it on the same cultural level as all the superhero stuff that's become prolific over the last decade or so.

Um, no, not really. If someone enjoys a bad movie, it can usually either be down to:

1) "It's so good it's bad" (in which case you're having fun at the film's expense)

2) "I know it's a bad film, but I enjoy it anyway."

Gods of Egypt does fall into the latter category for me. I genuinely did enjoy it, but I can't deny that it has significant problems in areas ranging from characterization to its CGI. So, bad enough to get into my bottom 10 worst films, but not bad enough that it's in my bottom 5, which were all bad in the sense of being unpleasant to watch.
