Prey Demo is Live on Consoles, PC System Requirements Announced

You can now play the first hour of Prey on consoles, and you can see if your PC will run the full game when it launches next week.

Bethesda announced announcement post [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/170073-Prey-Demo-Releasing-April-27-First-Hour-of-Game] that it could be more, depending on how you play.

There's still no word on when or if there might be a demo on PC, but Bethesda did announce the official PC system requirements today. Here's just how much rig you need to play Prey:

Minimum Requirements

CPU: Intel i5-2400 or AMD FX-8320
GPU: GTX 660 2GB or AMD Radeon 7850 2GB
Memory: 8 GB

Recommended Requirements

CPU: Intel i7-2600K or AMD FX-8350
GPU: GTX 970 4GB or AMD R9 290 4GB
Memory: 16 GB

Pre-order customers can pre-load the game on PS4 at midnight ET April 28. Xbox One pre-load begins at midnight on April 27, and PC pre-loads begin on May 3. Prey launches on PC, PS4, and Xbox One on May 5.

I miss the days when system specs used to mention things like clock speed. Though it does mostly mean at this point I just look at the swirl of numbers and go, "nope!"

(...Damn, I need to build a new PC soon...)

Of course the demo is only available on consoles. Screw you, devs.
Look at it this way; The console players are beta testing all the serious Bethesda trademarked bugs for us of the Master Race.

where is the demo gotten? I've checked the XBL store's demo section and its not there (is in UK)
I had to specifically type in Prey demo before it popped up, so if that doesn't work for you I don't know what's wrong.

OT: Well I was going to play some Overwatch tonight, but seeing this I think it would be stupid to pass up the opportunity to try the game to see if it's worth buying or not. Now to just wait for the 13 GB download to finish.

I'm not the only one who thinks the weapon models are angled really fucking goofy, am I? Like, they're aren't quite to the side like most shooters, but it isn't in the center either.

Like, looking at the angle of the aim, it would shoot off far to the left.

Can anyone on console weigh in on whether it's good or not?
After putzing around with the demo for about an hour I can say that it's pretty decent, but I don't see it winning many people's GOTY from what I've seen so far. It's got kind of "Bioshock but in space" thing going on with stuff from a few other game thrown in the mix, such as an inventory system like you would see in the early Resident Evil games that makes inventory management a must in beginning of the game(though you have enough space even in the beginning for it to not be a massive problem). The story, while intriguing, doesnt give me the feeling of being overly complicated or deep, but then again I'm not exactly far into the game so that might change if one were to go through the full version. I felt the combat was a bit janky, though that could be due to a number of things including me just sucking at the game right now. And while the menus are pretty well designed, some of the in game screens and such felt like I'd be better of if I had a mouse to interact with them. All in all it looks to be a rather interesting game that could really be worth checking out if you're into games like Bioshock and don't mind the occasional problems that might arise from it being a Bethesda game.

Also, quick side note, Mimics suck.

Not sure if that's serious or sarcasm.

Anyway, Arkane's previous outing, Dishonored 2, ran pretty poorly on PC at release. Better luck this time?

We used to call that "System Shock".
I know, but I've never actually gotten to play System Shock so it wasn't exactly at the front of my mind for examples when I was writing all that at two in the morning.

Cool, thanks for the details. I'm definitely in wait and see mode for Prey. Even at the time they first revealed it I thought it looked a little rough around the edges. I have a soft spot in my heart for the first Bioshock so we'll see.

Based on the demo alone I think its confusing. It feels like someone had an idea to make their own version of The Stanley Parable. But then had to make their own version of Dead Space instead.

Raw clock speeds don't matter as much as it used to.
A lot of modern CPU get a lot more work done in less clock ticks then old ones, and using less power doing so.
same goes for the GPU.

But i must say, recommending a i7-2600K isn't to bad, considering its a 6 year old CPU
As for GPU,the GTX 970 is quite popular (but not without controversie), and almost 3 years old as well.
Most people will have no problem meting these requirements.(don't own any AMD stuff atm. so i can't really say about them)
