Arkane Says it Won't Make the Same Mistake with Prey on PC it Made With Dishonored 2

//cdn.themis-media.com/media/global/images/library/deriv/1402/1402882.jpgIf you're worried about the PC version of Prey, Arkane wants to reassure you it's learned from Dishonored 2.

When Dishonored 2 launched on PC, players quickly ran into some released a patch [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/168806-Arkane-Investigating-Complaints-About-Dishonored-2-PC-Performance] that remedied most of them, but the studio wants to make sure that gamers know that it doesn't plan to let those same sort of issues happen with the release of Prey on PC.

Back in January, Prey creative director Raphael Colantonio addressed the concerns [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/169164-Prey-no-PC-Launch-Issues], saying that the studio is, "paying double attention to make sure that this time the PC version is really flawless when we ship." He's spoken up about the issue again this week.

In an interview with Gamespot [https://www.gamespot.com/articles/we-doubled-our-thoroughness-prey-dev-says-after-di/1100-6449714/], Colantonio said that Arkane Austin had "doubled [its] thoroughness" in testing the PC version of Prey. He went to say, "We're pretty confident. First of all, it's not like we first do the game on console and then in the end we suddenly port the game to PC. It starts on PC. That's how game development works."

He then said, "The real reason why PC games often have problems is because there are so many permutations of hardware. [And] sometimes it's timing-drivers come out the same time as our game. Something happens that makes it more challenging. At this point the game is fully ready, but that's what we've been doing for the past months-a lot of tests on different configurations and making sure it works. So we're pretty confident. You never know. But we're pretty confident."

Hopefully, Colantonio's confidence is well-founded, and the PC version of Prey launches without issue. We won't have to wait long to find out, as the game is coming to PC, PS4, and Xbox One this Friday, May 5.

Something worth noting, Prey doesn't use the same engine as Dishonored 2. Dishonored 2 uses The Void engine, which is roughly based on id Tech 5, Prey however is running on whatever version of CryEngine that's current. Another thing: Although they share name and collaborate on both projects, Dishonored 2 was mainly developed by Arkane Studios in Lyon, France, while Prey has been worked on by the team in Austin, United States.

I've played the demo and while congrats to them for releasing it, it's just not doing it for me. The enemies seem boring and more annoying than scary and the whole thing, I dunno it just seems to be lacking any real flair.

'Instead we plan on making completely different mistakes with the PC port. Hey might as well fuck it up in new and interesting ways each time, right?'

Well the guy surely has some interesting opinions.

Like how Steam's 2 hour refund policy equals to a demo. [https://www.ausgamers.com/news/read/3574291/preys-raph-colantonio-says-steams-2-hour-refund-policy-stands-in-place-of-demo]

But you don't NEED a demo to judge for yourself. Just trust us. And don't forget to pre-order.

i got dishonored 2 last christmas when it was really cheap and i had no issues with the game what so ever. i played it twice with no crashes or any other problems i have read about. so if they have learned from it, well, good on them i guess, but i dont think this will be reassuring to anyone what they say now. but, we could be wrong and there wont be any major problems with the game.
