Funcom Launches Free-to-Play Secret World Legends With New Trailer

Funcom's MMO The Secret World has re-launched as shared-world RPG Secret World Legends, and there's a new trailer.

Funcom launched The Secret World, a supernatural MMO, back in 2012. Although the game showed promise, it failed to find the commercial success that Funcom was hoping for. Rather than ditch the game, Funcom decided to take the premise, rebuild and rework it, and re-launch it as Secret World Legends. You can still play the original MMO, and now you can play Secret World Legends as well.

The new shared-world RPG launched today, and Funcom says it features "well over 100 hours of story-driven content." You can play through the game on your own, or you team up with friends.

Executive Producer Scott Junior says of the new game, "From the ambitious scale of its storytelling to the quality of quest design and voice acting, Secret World Legends delivers an experience unlike any other you can find in gaming. It's a captivating journey into the unknown with an adult setting and tone perfect for fans of deep, rewarding RPGs. And if you want, you can experience all of it with friends and strangers in this huge online world we've built. Or you can go at it alone - it's completely up to you."

You can get all the info on Secret World Legends, sign up to play for free, and download the client over at the game's official site [https://secretworldlegends.com/]. It will also be available on Steam, but not until July 31.

The original was interesting... at first, but eventually gave in to the usual MMO trappings and DLC paywalls. I might have to take a look at this little offshoot later.
Don't, it still has the soul in it but whoa boy is it a terrible experience to play now. The combat system is far worse, littered with RNG, lucky boxes are everywhere, dungeons don't drop loot anymore just lucky boxes that need keys to open, the game is classed based [sort of, you can change if you were a legacy account or grind to unlock a new weapon], and free to play restrictions are pretty severe.

So how did they change it with Legends?

I still have a vague interest in this game. If it had been single player oriented, I would have no doubt snapped it up when it came out. I even tried it at a friends house(who was playing it and trying to get me to make an account) but it didn't do anything for me.

Mostly the combat. It's now reticule based and, while still not great, feels much better than before.
Plus all of the story content that was charged extra before is now free, only cosmetics and boosters and such are paid extra.
If you have interest in the setting and the story (this is the main draw of the game), give it a go.
