The Original Version of Modern Warfare: Remastered Still Requires Infinite Warfare to Work

Activision has finally released Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered as a standalone product earlier this week [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/170629-Call-of-Duty-Modern-Warfare-Remastered-Standalone-Release-Confirmed-PS4-First], but that doesn't mean you can get rid of your Infinite Warfare disc, or even uninstall the game.

Players found that they weren't able to play Modern Warfare Remastered without Infinite Warfare installed, and Activision has confirmed that if you purchased a special edition of Infinity Ward's latest entry into the series that included the remaster, you must have Infinite Warfare installed and the disc in the console to play Modern Warfare Remastered.

The same goes for the digital versions: you need to have both games installed for Modern Warfare Remastered to work.

This may change down the road, but for now, you're stuck with having Infinite Warfare on your hard drive.

I read this as the standalone version that just came out works fine on its own.

However, if you purchased MW Remastered as part of the earlier IW bundle, it doesn't magically become the standalone version. It still requires IW to be installed.

It's still a stand alone product. Just that the version that's not sold stand alone requires the other part of the game as well.

I wonder if this is because of some ineffective security, or if there is a lot of asset sharing between the games, where the combined-version MW pulls some assets or code from the IW installation.

It might not have been done maliciously.
