Nintendo Already Working on Redesigned Wii

Nintendo teams with Sonic Solutions to produce a DVD-ready Wii for 2007.

Sonic Solutions, a California digital media company, declared a partnership with Nintendo for producing software to make a future version of the Wii DVD-playable right out of the box. Sonic's CinePlayer CE DVD Navigator software will be part of a new package planned to be released in the latter half of 2007. In October, Edge [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/newsroom/view/65987-DVD-Capable-Wii-to-Release-in-Japan] magazine leaked that Nintendo was planning the new, enhanced Wii for 2007, and the latest statements from Sonic Solutions solidify Nintendo's commitment to the idea.

Jim Taylor, Senior Vice President of Sonic?s Advanced Technology Group, stated: ?To be involved in Nintendo?s ground-breaking gaming console is extremely gratifying and a testament to the efficiency, flexibility and dependability of Sonic?s technology. Game consoles represent a fresh market and platform where we can introduce a new audience of potentially millions to the quality of our brand and the power of our digital media applications.?

Once again, public opinion causes Nintendo to undergo a design change, all for the better I say... I'd rather not have to deal with people asking me if the Wii can play DVD's like the PS3 or Xbox360 can...

I think that it's rediculous that the original Wii isn't even out yet and they're already talking about the redisgned version with new features. It makes me want to go eBay my pre-ordered Wii just on principle. I know that they're already planning out the successor to the Wii, but don't go around leaking info about the "Wii Too" when the first isn't even out. I don't mind if they redesign the product, make it smaller, fix some bug, but adding features, even one (as some would argue as trivial) as adding DVD playback, makes me want to wait for the new one.
