Dark Days Loom Ahead in The Secret World

The Escapist[/I] home turf - so who knows? We might just drop by and see if we can get some dirt on this very unique-looking MMORPG sometime soon. Stay tuned.

It's in America?

I already hate it. We need more games in really non-specific places like Wales.

"Imagine a world where vampires hunt for mortal blood in dingy London nightclubs, where werewolves lurk in the sewers beneath Seoul, and where the undead prey on the living in the shadows of New York City. This is the premise for «The Secret World», Funcom's upcoming massively multiplayer online game set in the modern day real world."

Have they made any successful attempts at making and MMORPG/FPS? I thought I remember a bunch in development, but none were ever released.

Anyway, its sounds like a cool concept. To bad MMO's will never be based on player skill and all about hours played.

I would definitely buy this game if it wasn't an MMORPG.

That would be cool actually. Taking this game's idea, you would battle the Wavel dragon in Krakow and duel Baba Jaga.

I don't trust Funcom as far as I can throw them. The concept seems really cool, but if I try this one it's going to be months after launch. I learned my lesson with AoC. Not to mention their history with releasing AO pretty much in a similar state to how AoC was released.

I do believe every Destination Truth fan on the Escapist just soiled themselves...
Why did I imagine myself saying that in a British accent? I'm not British!

On topic, it's a great concept. I hope it pulls through with some good gameplay ideas.

really a shame its an mmog, the idea is awesome and who knows they might make it work, but im starting to get tired of mmogs, what wrong whit plain mogs, why do we need 50.000 ppl in order to play. also how come its always John Funk who writes the articles/reviews/news about mmo's?

Interesting concept. Let's hope the gameplay is good as well.

Also, the last screenshot reminded me of L4D. The big monster resembles a tank, plus the lighting is similar to that of the L4D levels.

oh yer big cliches, and cliches wouldn't fit into a world whit vampires, werewolfs and zombies. no sir. this a new and fresh idea zone only.

just what we need, another game ripping off L4D's lighting.
when will developers stop ripping off valves lighting already.

So are the places going to be map-accurate? I mean, will residents of London, New York and Seoul be able to find their houses and favorite workplace, or will it be more of a "It looks like that city" deal?

Now we're talking! This is the sort of plot and setting that's so well done in books but not really that expressed in recent games. It's like everything has to be completely disconnected from the real world with MMOs, and it's very hard for newbies to connect to a story that doesn't have connections to RL.

I just wonder if Christian "mythology" is involved in the work (come on, who doesn't want to see Zeus and Yahweh duke it out in HD?). Probably not going to happen though: they wouldn't want to offend any of the louder types in America. The last thing the gaming industry needs is more banned games.

Once again, I'm just amused by how good the graphics look. Don't these developers understand that the reason why plenty of people play WoW is the low system requirements? Oh well, if they want to fizzle for three years and die, it's their choice. But it is for this reason that they're not getting my money.

Oops, looks like someone forgot some of the World War 2 games.

Probably a Liberty City or fallout 3 kind of thing.

My memory may be wrong but didn't Funcom sorta...well...do a really shitty job with Age of Conan? I know I didn't play it past a week because they released a very much so unfinished game(those bastards also still owe me a drinking cloak). I'm going to keep a vary wary mind when I hear anything about this game.

The idea is great, the pictures look nice; but lets not forget Age of Conan had all the same trappings ;)
