Eh, it ain't that great. It doesn't even has Duke wrestling a horse.

Now this is art!
Clearly no finer piece of art has ever, or will ever be created. The artist behind that Duke painting could learn a lesson or two. I mean, jegus, look at the BICEPS on that HORSE! And that fiery felt mane! Absolute perfection.

That's...uh...that's actually kind of a mediocre painting. The perspective's off, the lighting's flat and directionless, the guns look half-rendered, and Duke himself looks kind of like an inflatable doll. The average denizen of conceptart.org could crank out something like this in 5-6 hours. They might have commissioned a slightly more talented artist.
I think "mediocre" is a generous description. It's cool that this is for charity, but that painting straight up sucks.

Wait, Left 4 Dead was innovative?

Having only played it in mini-parties on Splitscreen on my friend's Xbox (and having awesome fun), I guess I have only myself to blame for not noticing this. But as a genuine question, how is it different to normal zombie shooter games?
Yes, but not in terms of shooter mechanics. I'm thinking more of the dynamic soundtrack and the use of the AI Director.

How the HELL was it created "in one single sitting" if it took 350 hours? What, did the guy never leave the chair for two months? Did they bring a potty for him to do his business in?

I wonder how much they paid the artist for 350 hours of painting, which is essentially over two months of full-time work.

Oh wait...innovation...shooter...my bad. Carry on.
Oh yeah. Because shooters never [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Left_4_dead], ever [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brink_(video_game)] innovate...
Yeah! Innovation is best left to RPGs [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Final_Fantasy_XIII]!
Nah best leave it to sport games [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Madden_NFL_11]
Or puzzle [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Portal_(video_game)] games [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scribblenauts] + 1 [http://marctenbosch.com/miegakure/]
Added one

And uhhh...
stealth [http://www.gamespot.com/ps3/adventure/metalgearsolid4/index.html?tag=result%3Btitle%3B0]
games? [http://www.gamespot.com/search.html?qs=assassins+creed&om_act=convert&om_clk=search]
I hope you guys are kidding. The real innovation comes from the MMO genre.
Pfft. Forget you're fancy Mumorpugers. Simulation games [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_Microsoft_Flight_Simulator] like [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/109515-Realistically-Clean-Up-the-Streets-in-Garbage-Truck-Simulator] these [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Qwop] are where the real innovations at....

Really Duke? Wearing the same red tank top and jeans? Whatever happened to that resplendent new robe you commissioned to be made that would appear invisible to anyone stupid or unworthy? Still, knowing Duke, he'd probably be fine with it anyway and say something along the lines of "Because the pants haven't been built yet that'll take the job on!" I dont think this would make a good impression on the Brits, but Duke is about offending people, so i can let it slide.

Also, still loving those release dates.
Oh, I'm sure I speak for at least 90% of us when I say we seriously don't care about the wedding, just the day off. It's not a bad thing, but Yanks seem to get far more excited about it than the Brits.

It's a neat idea, but the only positive thing I can think of saying about the painting is that the not-so warm colors give an idea of cold, hard death despite a couple goldish bullets on that crazy floor.

He might have finished it in one sitting, but since the painting is oil it might have taken 350 hours just to dry.

350 hours and it looks like 300 or so hours of that was spent perfecting the highlights on the crotch. Everything else seems so flat and loosely rendered. Most of the props around Duke and the background itself seem like afterthoughts. I don't really like it. I sincerely hope this was a low-bid commission....

2K Games has commissioned the most involved piece of Duke Nukem art ever created.
Most time involved piece of duke art? His final 3D model took 10 years :D.
Ouch!

I'm looking forward to this game just to satisfy my curiosity.

Well... Depending on the size, this could have taken several times longer than a similar image rendered on a scalable digital format. Still, I find 350 hours a bit... unbelievable. Though I thought skill might have contributed to the amount of time it took, considering the poor anatomy featured in this painting, but after my tablet pen spazzing out from a low battery and clicking on link to a porn site when I was googling his name, I fear that assessing his abilities by looking at his usual work would be deeply scarring.

This is the ONE time I'm happy that my internet's so bad, it doesn't load images before I can close the window! :D
