Mickey, Donald, and You

Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck's videogames are not just cute and fun, but also represent two different sides of the human psyche.

Donald's nervous break down, or him just losing it (is there a difference between a nervous break down and just losing it?) are HILARIOUS!

And he even turns into a killer. Poor, poor Donald...

I still think QuackAttack is one of the better Disney Platformers of the 3D era :) It was fun, and it stayed close to the comic universe which is my favorite incarnation of Disney

The only old Disney platformer I remember playing was Maui Mallard in: Cold Shadow for PC. That was a kinda dark game but I felt so pro when I beat it at age 9.

Here's something that'll mess with your mind: In Disney Canon, Mickey is Donald's imaginary friend. Mickey doesn't exist beyond Donald's mind. That Mickey head blimp in Quack Pack was put there from Donald's mind...

That would make one hell of a dark reboot for them... wouldn't it? Donald as Edward Norton and Mickey as Brad Pitt in Fight Club?

FWIW, in Finland Donald is somewhere around demigod status (The weekly Donald Duck is the highest-subscription magazine in the country - and you'll notice he gets top billing) while Mickey, though starring in his own stories, is roughly at the status of a sidekick. Probably a bigger deal than Gyro Gearloose or Magica De Spell, but small fry compared to Uncle Scrooge or Daisy.

Speaking of Daisy, I always thought it was weird how she never showed up in the Ducktales cartoon. She's one of the more famous classic Disney characters, but she got the shaft. I think she would have made a nice guest star in some episodes.

World of Illusion needs an HD remake! :)
I think the Kingdom Hearts series is like, an evolution of the Illusion series. From what I've heard, it seems to have all that magic / fantasy like thing going for it, which is just what the Illusion series offered in its day. But now that Kingdom Hearts is here, higher-ups might feel that Illusion is unnecessary to fill the void.

Yes. I read in an article once that said the creators of Kingdom Hearts got some inspiration from world of Illusion. I love kingdom hearts 1 and 2, but the idea of a World of Illusion remake with HD graphics and today's sound quality (the songs where so amazing) tickles my nostalgia bone like nothing else.
I know it will never happen, but I like to daydream about it. :)

World of Illusion was a good game, definitely. Remember the part where Mickey and Donald walked across piano keys in the sky? It was total sunshine fantasy escapism. You're right, a game like that could definitely work wonders for the audience on HD. It could possibly reach trippy or surreal levels.

O where those out -90->92? oh my I'm getting really old.
I've actually played all three and at the time I loved them, I'm not sure how they aged but I still have them all and my "genesis" (although European so Sega Mega Drive..).. Unfortunately (or maybe not, nostalgia is a b!tch) I don't have it home... Even more fun probably is to show the kids how you connect "real" consoles to the TV... or how do they scale on a HDtv--- ;P

Those Disney games where some of the few I got to play but they where really child-friendly but not stupid, like most of todays games targeted at the sub 10 group...

By the way the rainbow in "castle of illusion.." is way cool :p
Loved the "quackshot" gun finding the right plungers was ehm not always fun.. But popcorn shooting way great....
And "world of illusion" where my first multiplayer game damn it was hard getting anyone playing it with me... ;)

What I'm not missing though limited amount of lives...plus not being able to save was not so great when you had limited time to play..bring back

Also played Kingdom Hearts (1,2) and they are in some ways an evolution of "world of illusion"..

Oh my rambling about nostalgia...

More OnT: Donald and Mickey was at the time really different characters, but now days they are somewhat lamer. Always this "cute and cuddly". Donalds temperament was really "violent" and not very nice in to days standard and Mickey was the "moral and righteous".. Great mix those two in "World of Illusion".. Not sure if it is really possible to make them this "extreme" opposites today, Kingdom Hearts has a much nicer Donald, and I think dumber Mickey... So they are close but not spot on them same "mean/nice" opposites...
