World Cyber Games Signs Hardware Sponsor, Germany Hosts Finals

Philips sponsors the World Cyber Games, and Germany hosts the final tournament of the 2008 season.

Video and computer game tournament manager World Cyber Games (WCG) and Philips have signed an exclusive, three-year sponsorship agreement. Philips Electronics, Gaming and Peripherals will be labeled as an "Official Global Partner," and its amBX accessories will be the official "Ambient Gaming Environment Systems" at select WCG global events. A "WCG Philips amBX Cup Challenge" will take place at various WCG tournaments, including the grand finals, where professional gamers will compete against each other, all sporting amBX peripherals for added sound, light, wind and vibration effects during gameplay.

Michael Arzt, Senior Vice President and General Manager of International Cyber Marketing USA, said, "The Philips? amBX Cup Challenge adds an all-new and spectacular element to our events, by providing gamers and spectators with a glimpse at the true immersive experience that amBX peripherals can provide."

Engelbert van Pelt, General Manager New Business Development at Philips, added, "Working with the World Cyber Games is a great opportunity for Philips to showcase the power of amBX and further immerse gamers into the competition. Both Philips? and the World Cyber Games? goal is to create an amazing experience for the gamers. We believe the amBX peripherals and the amBX Cup adds a new level of immersive playing never before experienced in the World Cyber Game events."

In addition, World Cyber Games announced the 2008 season finale will be held at the Cologne Messe (Koelnmesse), an exhibition hall in Germany. The event is expected to gather at least as many gamers (700 competitors and 25,000 onlookers) as attended the last tournament final held in Monza, Italy.
