Rumor: X-Men Origins: Wolverine 2 Details Hit The 'Net

After the success of X-Men Origins: Wolverine, a sequel was all but inevitable. Now, an entry has appeared on IMDB seemingly lifting the curtain on the follow up.

The entry for the film [http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1430132/] lists a nebulous "2011" release date for the "in production" flick, with only Hugh Jackman appearing among the cast.

As for a plot, IMDB claims, "Wolverine travels to Japan to trail with a samurai warrior." Presumably that "trail" should actually say "train" -- which makes sense given Wolverine's comic book backstory, but it certainly doesn't make for an entire film plot.

Additionally, the entry attributes the screenplay to Christopher McQuarrie, the man who scripted 2008's explosives-versus-sturdy-table epic Valkyrie [http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0985699/]. What that may mean for Wolvie 2 is anyone's guess, though based on the laughably vague, "clutching at straws" entry from which all this information came, I wouldn't be surprised to read claims that Patch would be taking on Der Führer in an Aliens Versus Predator-esque crossover epic.

So ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, the $64,000,000 question is whether or not you actually believe this news. Personally this all sounds a bit too close to what comic book nerds across the 'net have been clamoring for ever since it was announced that Wolvie would be getting his own line of films.

Since when has Fox ever listened to the desires of its audience?

On the other hand, I would like to see Logan in an eyepatch, mauling ninjas of the Hand while trying to woo Mariko Yashida.

She might not have the rustic sex appeal of Silver Fox, but, as my dear mother was so fond of saying, "you have to respect a woman who will cut off parts of her body to appease the Yakuza."

Can't we just take all of that funding and go backwards, making the first Wolverine movie better?

Wait, better idea, what about that Deadpool movie with Ryan Reynolds that everyone is hoping will get made? Can FOX just make that one instead?

Your mother actually said that? Congrats man, you officially have the most awesome family in the world :D

On topic, I still haven't seen Wolverine 1, so that's just on my to do list now. But With the whole Disney takeover of Marvel, I wouldn't be surprised if the next one is all about Logan fighting Heartless with Sora, Donald and Goofy.

Yeah, that's right. I took the obligatory Disney/Marvel crossover joke and raised it one Square/Disney crossover. Call or fold, guys? Or am I just bluffing?

Sounds good. I liked Origins (so shoot me), partly because I don't read comics despite knowing a fair amount about the characters, which meant that I didn't sit through and whine that it was different to what I thought it should of been (nor did I care that Deadpool was different, it's called interpretation!).

Wolverine is one of the most interesting of the lot and I'm always interested in a film about him.

Nothing against another Wolverine movie, but shouldn't they be working on Cyclops: Origins, or Professor Xavier: Origins, or some other film on the Origins track?

My understanding was one character, one movie. Not "Milk Hugh Jackman's Fame for All It's Worth".
Your understanding is greatly flawed.

Also, Origins sucked, and Ryan Reynolds as Wade Wilson is such a fucking terrible joke that it wouldn't even pass as an ironically terrible one-liner in a Deadpool comic. He's supposed to be a hideously scarred, cancer-ridden freak, not an Abercrombie pretty boy who gets to hump ScarJo on a nightly basis!

If only Liefeld had died back in the 90s, his corpse would be spinning like a dreidel right about now.

Well, If the Tie-In game is anything as good as the first movie's one then I'll be alright with that.

I can sum up my feelings about this in two words: Well fuck.

Honestly, the first movie was bad enough. Do we REALLY need a sequel?

Ok, if it were such a good game it could have a sequel that wasn't based on a crappy movie. Start everything from the begining and just call it Wolverine and fix some gameplay problems...

I read some of the comics (Wolverine's a great character), and I really liked the movie
Deadpool...haven't seen him in the more recent comics so I know less about him
but yeah for me I really want to try the game, the demo was mad fun

Yay! I don't care what anyone says, for all it's flaws, I still enjoyed Origins.

Liefeld wanted Deadpool to be pretty for the DP movie, actually, because he didn't think American audiences would be able to handle Wade as the horribly scarred freak he was. I think it's been confirmed Reynolds will be wearing the costume in the movie, so I'm not sure how/if he'll be fugly.

Reynolds fits the role pretty well in my humble opinion.
Also, the Deadpool movie got the green light about two weeks after the Wolverine movie hit theaters, with Reynolds confirmed to reprise his role.

But then not long after, news hit the fan that RR had signed on to do Green Lantern. I haven't heard anything yet on if this postpones Deadpool, or if they are now looking for someone else to play Deadpool. There is still lots of material yet to be done between Origins:Wolverine and the X-Men movie, but Fox is missing a golden opportunity to broaden the spectrum and feature other X-Men. I for one would like to see the Magneto movie that was proposed, with Ian McKellen doing some shots in it. And maybe David Tennant as a younger Magneto. Cyclops, Scott Summers is an awesome choice as well, as that can bring Mister Sinister into the limelight, as well as his errant brother, Alex. And those of us versed in the X-Men know how Sinister is all about cloning....
Either case, there are plenty of actors that have the moxy to fit Deadpool, and Fox has been pretty good at making sure the mold is fit into well. At least as far as the X-Men have been concerned.
And it is getting about time that the current storyline is returned to, find out if Magneto does regain his power, and the effects of the easter egg at the end of X3. (No gimmes here, if you missed it, go rent it and check it for yourself!)

One of my friends refuses to speak of this movie. He doesn't acknowledge its existence. Whenever someone mentions it, he just turns away and says something along the lines of "What Wolverine movie?"

I would much rather they leave the original without a sequel. But since they're going to make the origin movies anyway, they should move on to more characters. I would love to see Origins: Magneto. Like an expansion on the opening from the original X-Men where he tears apart the gate of the concentration camp. It has good potential, in my opinion.
