Kojima Promises Zone of the Enders 3

Not only does Hideo Kojima "really want" to make Zone of the Enders 3, he's promised gamers that it will happen ... eventually.

This has been a good past few days for fans of Hideo Kojima's mech-based action games, Zone of the Enders: Last week, Kojima let it slip that he and the rest of the staff at Kojima Productions blog [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/95486-Kojima-Really-Wants-to-Make-New-Zone-of-the-Enders] and outright promised that the team would get around to making a sequel one day:

"I cannot make a promise about time. However, I can promise a sequel."

Kojima went on to accept blame for the commercial failure of Zone of the Enders 2: The Second Runner, chalking the disappointing sales (despite critical praise and cult love) to poor scheduling on his fault. "Everything was due to an error by me ... At that time, if I hadn't made a mistake with the release date, [Zone of the Enders] might have ended up a major Kojima Productions title to follow MGS, still seeing development as a series."

It's okay, Hideo. Make ZoE3 and I'm sure they'll all forgive you.

I would buy this. I loved the first two games and even that GBA RTS. 2nd Runner was obviously the best, though.

Truer words, never spoken, etc.

Well it's good to hear that he's promised it'll happen eventually. I suppose it could still go the way of Duke Nukem Forever but...I trust Kojima to get it done.

I enjoyed the first Zone of the Enders quite a bit, although I remember being sad at the length. I think it was about a 4-6 hour game. :(

Thats 1 down. Now all we need is Psychonauts 2, a new Parappa the Rapper, a sequel to Vib Ribbon and a new Sonic game that does NOT suck anal juice.

ZoE 2 IS amazing though. It still looks good even now due to its unique take on cel-shading. What it would look like on 1 of the current platforms blows my mind thinking of it. I remember seeing ZOE footage on a PS2 mag disk at one point and it blew my mind, I dont think it can take another hit.

On a side note what could they possibly ADD unless they replace Jehuty? I mean from where the game left off there is not much room for a sequel with that particular frame.

Yesyesyesyes I have wanted for so long. I played ZOE1 and I was like wow, and then I found ZOE2 in a bargain bin in some garage sale for like 5 bucks, and I loved it sooooo much.

ZoE1 was a great tech demo. Excellent controls, a single map, and 3 enemies. Still, fun enough to rinse and repeat until hitting the ending credits.

ZoE2, however, is on my list as one of the best games ever made. It took the tech demo and added sheer variety. The only problem I have with it is the Escort mission is the first thing you do after the tutorial. They get it out of the way early, but it's still a bit tough since you are still learning the controls if you are new, and this turned off some of my friends. Every other level of that game screams excellence; they were all engaging.

They made a character named Dingo cool. That's like Joss Whedon making Cyclops cool in Astonishing Xmen. You think it's impossible until you witness it.

If you haven't played ZoE2, go play it. It is a great game. The only problem is it does not support Progressive scan, so playing on an HD set looks no where near as good as it did back in the day (which, when it launched, was gorgeous).

Konami said they'd be doing reboots of a bunch of old PS2 games, ZoE2 being one of them. Link. [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/93743-Konami-To-Re-Issue-PS2-Classics] So keep an eye out. I ended up paying £40 for my used copy off eBay, about 3 months ago ;<

Zone of Enders 2 was a game where Kojima's heavy handed "Playable Movie" style actually worked pretty well, delivering both a cinematic experience and a tight 7 hour game with plenty of cool stuff to do. I really can't wait for him to continue the series.
