The upgrade to Ultima Online launches an open beta.

First reported [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/64225-Ultima-Online-to-Receive-Upgrade-in-2007] last October, Kingdom Reborn is an updated Ultima Online client developed by the Ultima Online team at EA Mythic that features updated graphics and an upgraded user interface for the nearly decade-old massively multiplayer game.

Dear god. UO was the first and only MMOG I played, and in spite of having sworn off the genre I'm sorely tempted to revisit the place. Maybe I can finally figure out how to make furniture. Cause, you know, I can do it in real life now, so why not give it a go in the game?

I was also a Grandmaster Fisherman. So, I could totally fish you some fish. Or a sea serpent.

See this is exactly the direction I was hoping this conversation wouldn't go.

Alright, so since I've been gone a while I have to ask: is Garriott a playable character?

Didn't they kill Lord British at one point? He was either playing himself or had an NPC controlling a character named after him that was insanely powerful, and someone was able to defeat him.

Prolly cut off his rat tail - took away all his power.

Hah.

Actually, it was during beta. He was addressing a bunch of roleplayers and some dude cast poison field, an AOE spell, where he was standing. He didn't bother to get out of the way, but forgot to turn on his invincibility. So, uhh, down went Frazier.
