World Cyber Games Committee Begins 2009 Host City Bidding
The World Cyber Games Committee has announced its host city bidding plan for the 2009 World Cyber Games Grand Final.
All potential host cities will go through an evaluation process which will look at factors such as location, financing, government support, facilities, promotion, and infrastructure. Applications must be received by July 15, and the announcement of the host city will be made in March of 2008.
The first Word Cyber Games host city was Daejeon, in Korea, which held the Grand Final in 2002. In 2004, San Francisco played host, followed by Singapore in 2005 and Monza, Italy, in 2006. This year's event will take place in Seattle, while the 2008 Final will be held in Cologne, Germany.
"The World Cyber Games has quickly established a great reputation for contributing to the development of the economies and IT infrastructures of host cities," said Hyoung-Seok Kim, CEO of World Cyber Games global organizer International Cyber Marketing. "Coupled with the growing popularity of e-Sport competition around the world, we believe that selecting the Host City for 2009 will be the most competitive Host City Bid in WCG history."
The World Cyber Games features over 1 million participants from 70 countries world-wide. The 2006 Grand Final in Monza drew an audience of more than 24 million, and was the first ever live global satellite broadcast for an e-Sports event.
