Dark Void Trailer Confuses and Enthralls

Dark Void should be on every action gamer's watch list. This new trailer introduces us to the game's Watchers, who are... shapeshifting... robot... alien... slug... guys.

Dark Void is an upcoming action game from Capcom that just keeps looking better and better. First, its vertical combat system was highlighted, having players fight upward rather than forward. Then, the main character acquired a jetpack, allowing him to engage in flight combat and dismantle enemy UFOs, supposedly seamless with ground combat areas. Story details have so far revealed that Dark Void follows the tale of a pilot that travels to an alternate dimension called the Void when journeying through the Bermuda Triangle, where a group of survivors are battling the Watchers.

These Watchers, Dark Void's major antagonist group, are the stars of this trailer though I'm not really sure what they are. At one point, a glowing slug ejects itself from a robot suit of some kind. A shapeshifting creature transforms into a human, presumably to replace a government leader. At the end, a dragon-like creature is shown throwing a flying vessel at the game's main character, crouching on a vessel of his own. Whatever the Watchers are, they rule over the Void and it's the player's main goal to take them down to stop them from crossing over into the real world.

Dark Void was likely pushed back to a release date of January 22, 2010 to avoid being overshadowed by some war game at the end of 2009. Now, it's one of the top contenders to look out for early next year. People may have thought it was cool to have Leonardo Da Vinci create Ezio's tools of murder in Assassin's Creed 2, but Dark Void has this beat by far by adding mysterious genius Nikola Tesla who re-engineers Watcher technology. For bringing back Tesla alone, Dark Void deserves a look. Find out more at Dark Void's official website [http://www.darkvoidgame.com/].

Best way to describe them would be kinda like Daleks I think, the slug thing is the true "Watcher" while the robot stuff is just their casing/travel machine.

It looks like Mass Effect had a baby with Final Fantasy, while somewhere else The Rockerteer had a baby with Destroy All Humans, and then somehow thoughs two babys met and fucked and created Dark Void.

Dark Void-The result of baby fucking.

Cookie for reference.

I saw a "Games for Windows" Tag, so i'm assuming this will be on PC?

Anyone have the official release date for the PC version?
(I know it said 22, but for all I know, they could push back the PC version... *ahem* AC 2.)

This trailer is meh, but I'm still interested in the game because of the limitless plot possibilities.

Hoooleeeee shit.

Those uh, Watchers remind me of those Lego Bionicle I had as a kid, where you had a figure that held a larva-like think in its head, which acts as its brain.

Say, how awesome would it be if Half-Life's Advisors and Dark Void's Watchers combined forces? They both resemble larvae, they both come from another dimension, one has really cool bionic suits and shapeshifting powers and the other telekinetic powers and legions of Combine slaves. Humans would be well and thoroughly screwed.

Reminds me of the Yeerks from Animorphs. If you get the reference, clearly you were a tween in the 90's.

I feel like I just took a hit of acid and then sped through an amusement park on a rocket car while reading a science fiction novel.

I want this game now.

I'm hard-pressed to find a trailer of an action-film/game where people aren't dumbfounded and drooling over these days.

What's up with that?

By the way, not impressed at all. I don't even bother to try telling them apart anymore.

I'm actually looking forward to this game. Third person shooter with a major jet-pack element? It's like the game I drew up plans for during my lunch periods back in middle school.

That and it looks a little like advent rising, which brings back happy memories... I really liked that game... Of course, the gameplay was meh and the graphics had a tendency to glitch around water, but the story was fantastic and the setting was really well put together. If only it hadn't come out so close to halo, people might have taken the fun route and gone full melee-and-abilities instead of using the crappy guns and faulty targeting system...

Ahem. but that was off topic. although I'll have to wait for reviews or a chance to rent it, I think that this title will be a decent one. and Slug-Aliens in power armor is just badass. Unquestionable evil nemesis FTW!

It's strange how I thought almost exactly this, insane minds think alike. :)

OP: I am interested in this game since I saw that bit of gameplay you had up a while ago, the only thing I can say is that the levels look too linear for a game where you have a jetpack. I hope that it is less linear than I predict.

I don't know, the last game that promised vertical combat was Damnation. I wanted to punch the creators of that piece of shit IN THE SOUL.

How did the slugs make the machine suits :O
Nevertheless the game looks promising. And after reading the Brad Pitt production post i just cant help myself at wanting this game :O
Games usually dont catch the eye of Hollywood so this one must have something up its sleeve.
The main char looks awesome in his suit with the jetpack. Just gives you that feeling of "i wanna fly n bomb everything n then fly back n piss on it to put out the fires so i can see what have i done"

Yes. I read all the books except for a few. And there was about 60 books total.
