Master Chief Does Hyrule in The Legend of Halo

A timeless adventure starring that iconic green-clad videogame hero. No, the other one.

It really is amazing how much of our memories are derived from sound. All it takes is the little opening glissando of that MIDI-ified piano from the Ocarina of Time title screen [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wv-jQuZmQYE], and I instantly feel like a 13-year-old kid again, sitting in my basement with all the lights turned off as I start my latest Zelda adventure.

That aside, the above video is the first part of The Legend of Halo: The Quest for Recon, a little machinima project featuring one user's quest for the extremely rare Recon armor in Halo 3 done in the style of The Legend of Zelda: The Ocarina of Time. And when I say "done in the style of," I mean that this guy absolutely nailed the feel of the N64 classic. From the camera angles as the Master Chief opens doors to the boss intro (how do you pronounce an apostrophe at the end of a word, exactly?), it's 100% Zelda ... just, you know, starring a SPARTAN-II instead of a little fairy boy in tights.

It might not look like a very exciting game to play (and boy, is it ever clear that Halo isn't meant to be a third-person action game) but the guy earns an A+ on effort and nostalgia value alone.

(Update: Some wonkiness with the Machinima YouTube video. Replaced with a mirror until that gets fixed)

I saw that a couple of months ago on Machinima.com. That A+ is definitely earned. Also, just adding the apostrophe at the end of boss is the correct grammar. No more effort is necessary.

[small]It took them this long to post it on Youtube?[/small]

Was The Funk leet at zelda when he was young?
I'm not going to say yes and I'm not going to say no.

I'm just going to say that I could beat OoT in a single sitting, with Biggoron's Sword before I even beat the Forest Temple.

Just sayin'.

Oh my god. That was hilarious. The whole time I was just waiting for him to open a chest.

This. The 'open treasure chest' jingle is what made all those hours trudging through the dungeons so rewarding in the end. I might go so far as to say that the jingle was more rewarding than the item you actually received. ^^

As has been mentioned, a well-deserved A+. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'll go cry in the corner because I don't have an N64 anymore.

....

no... just no, it´s the worst crossover i have ever seing

i´m sorry, i dont see the appeal in putting sounds of a memorable game into Halo 3 and say it "nailed" the feel of a clasic, it doesnt in my oppinion.

but nice effort after all.

don't see anyone hating on halo right now, that was pretty cool I never played any zelda so I'm a little out of context but still, cool.

Imperfect though this may be, it was an interesting (and nostalgic) little video. I especially got a kick out of the Start menu at the end.
