Robin Williams, Hardcore Gamer?

In an interview on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon last Friday, Robin Williams revealed that he has been a gamer for a long, long time.

In a two-minute segment available on YouTube, Robin Williams said he's addicted to playing videogames. He then showed his gaming cred with several jokes displaying his gaming knowledge. Williams did quite a good impersonation of a 10 year old playing Call of Duty and said that his daughter is named after Link's favorite princess, Zelda.

"It's always weird when you play online and you get owned by a ten-year-old going 'You're my *****'", he told Fallon. ""'Hey, old man, I own your ass.'" He went on to tell a story about a French gamer asking for his help in an online match, likening the experience to the battlefield of Saving Private Ryan.

Williams also said that even though he named his daughter after the princess, he doesn't call her Princess Zelda often, "only occasionally." He added that his son Cody was named after another game but doesn't reveal which one. His other boy, Mario, on the other hand...

Usually, the improvisational comedy of Robin Williams is hit or miss, either you ride his stream-of-consciousness tidal wave laughing all the way or it crashes over you without even a giggle. This interview is pretty entertaining, though, if only for supplying us gamers another celebrity to add to our list.

I must say that I like Robin Williams even more now, which is a feat in itself. Who else secretly hopes Cody is named after the Street Fighter character?

I had no idea he played video games but I'd love to play along side him while he's cracking jokes and doing impersonations...but we'd be dead but come its Robin Williams!

Pretty interesting. Just goes to show that pretty much anyone out there can play video games without the rest of the world knowing.

I always enjoyed his work.

And hell after showbiz, and comedy you'd wanna shoot someone in a video game...keeps you away from the meth and coke scene.

Which he also was a fan of.

Robin Williams is great. I'm not a huge fan of most of his movies, but I love his comedy stuff.

I guess it sounds kinda stupid, but it's fun hearing how big celebs have fun like normal people do. :p

I like Robin Williams, he seems to be better at games than Dara O Brian as well from his story.

Huh... Call bullshit on this if you like, but I think I once played a match with someone that sounded a bit like Robin Williams... course he had a bad mike, so I could be mistaken...

Can you imagine being called "Zelda" and having to go to school? You'd get bullied more than Titties McCockbag.

Okay, maybe not more than him, but it's hardly a normal name.

If he named his son Cody after the Final Fight/Street Fighter character, Robin Williams will receive ten-thousand more respect points from me... Which actually doesn't amount to much, because I already respect the man quite a bit.

Isn't he also really into Neon Genesis Evangelion?

I thought this was old news. After all, he spoke (and helped demonstrate) at a presentation with Will Wright during Spore's development, and I'm fairly sure I've heard that he's a longtime World of Warcraft player. I was more shocked to hear that Vin Diesel is a hardcore Dungeons & Dragons player, to be honest.

Also: $10 says that Cody is named after one of the characters in Final Fight.

That is epic.

And his impersonation of the 10 year olds is quite accurate too XD

Cool.

I oncer played TF2 with a guy whose screen name was Seth Rogan, he sounded exactly like him and claimed that it was actually he. You never know though, but it was fun nonetheless. He was actually a pretty descent player. We went toe to toe with one another as snipers for awhile and it was pretty evenly matched. I'd like to think it really was him.

EDIT: I also used to group with this chick in WoW that said she was some semi famous pornstar. Her name was Mia something... can't remember.
