Are you telling me that I might not be able to hear the game in the true and original language of glorious Nippon? This is absolutely inexcusable.

So long as the english voice over is done well, which it has been the past few FF games, then I'm perfectly fine with this.

Point is kinda moot for me though; I have a ps3

Final Fantasy usually has solid voice work, although X's could get more than a little grating at times (but it was otherwise great). That being said I recently saw a download on xbox live that allowed you to change the dialogue language in Fable 2 to English no matter which version of the game you owned, why not do that with a Japanese voice track?

For the record I play most games in Japanese depending on the quality (or lack thereof) of the dub work.

That would be a good idea, so long as it's a free download. The idea of making someone pay something for a game that should have been in it from the start would be a dick move... Not that it doesn't happen a lot already :D

*applaud* Very good! You can even imagine in your world that Square-Enix made the game just for you!

Seriously, what's with all the weirdos in this topic? Can't Escapists ever just soak in some information without the need to insult somebody or act otherwise ridiculous?
Ok, I can understand you calling out Darkrai on that other post, but this is a little uncalled for.

He was making a statement about how he speaks English as his main language, and therefore, would like to hear his game characters speak English too. It's not meant to make anyone mad. You're being offended by a non-existant insult.

And we always act ridiculous. MONKEY-BANANAS! SPLIGGLEFURT! OOZERBAFFLES!

That last one was just for you :D
Wait.. what? I guess you read something into what I wrote that wasn't there. I have no idea what you're talking about. It's moot anyway, he already replied and spoke for himself.

Thanks for acting ridiculous, I guess? Aren't those the names of Harry Potter jellybeans?

I was attempting to defuse what I thought was a potential heated argument in the making via bizzare humor. I was ninja'd by his response.

As for the words, they aren't jellybean flavors. I just made them up. WANGERDOODLES!

Coming from a person who watched Advent Children Complete in Japanese then in English, I almost yanked my hammer, anvil, and stirrup out.

Anyway, most of the FF games however have good voice acting in English. Except Tidus, never before have I hated the sound of my own main characters voice. -__-... Counting Sora in KH1, too.

I'll still buy this on my PS3, but in the end is it that big a deal? Oh well, /switches fanboy switch on.

"TIZ IZ Y I <3 MA PS3, MO SP@C3 TH@N TH@T SH!T-BOX 3SH!TTY!!" ...o__o *cough* I'm terribly sorry about all that.

Only a joke folks, don't get offended.

ehh... I almost always buy single player multiplat games on my ps3, just like I almost always buy multiplayer multiplat games on my 360.

FF XIII is one-player, so I'm going to buy it for my ps3

Also, in response to someone wanting a great reason to own a ps3? inFamous. That is all

I call BS on the developer. This reeks of the developer just not wanting to go through the work of compressing the data so it fits on the standard 360 disc. At the end of the say it's definitely not a big deal so meh.
right so what do they compress? the sound, makes it sound bad or the graphics, makes them look bad or both, makes the 360 fanboys whine even more

personally i think they have to go with option C as it is and would have to compress it even more causing more issues with load times, memory usage, heat problems and many other things

personally i couldn't care less about there being no japanese dub, tho i have a ps3. the thing about the subs and dubs is both are hacked versions, try turning on closed captioning and watching tv and watching how much they cut out of that, then realize they do the same for subtitles as well.

i'd honestly rather watch stuff with an english dub rather than subtitles as i like to watch movies and not read half of it

Wow. So I can can listen to bad voice acting in TWO languages?

Erm... bad luck 360?

I really dont see how this would matter to anyone, nice to see their trying to fill up my Blu Ray but couldnt they give me some extra side quests instead of an option to NOT UNDERSTAND the dialogue?

Relatively certain the Final Fantasy XIII has a lot more dialogue than Fable II. Could be wrong, but it looks like I'm not.
I'd imagine so, but dialogue really isn't that big provided it's compressed properly, the ps2 era Final fantasies managed to fit a lot of dialogue onto a single layer disk, along with all the game assets and movies. The biggest problem I forsee in a PS3 to 360 port is the movies if theyr'e in HD. In which case 360 owners can look forward to a Blue Dragon style 4 disk-a-thon.

Unless Square Enix decides to make the videos SD to save time and effort on their part.
I don't see why they can't render them in real time. They have the engine, and the hardware.

You do realize you don't actually have to live in Japan to know the language, right?

Clever since when does compression mean that it automatically is making whatever look/sound bad...Almost every single game (yes even those on the PS3) have parts or even most of the game compressed. Thats what makes load times and disc space smaller. While you can make the argument that having the sound uncompressed is the best quality the reality is that most people can't tell the difference between the two...again this topic doesn't matter much, but just saying. I still blame the developer for not *trying* to get it to fit.

On another note I agree with what someone above me said...with the extra space on Blu-Ray I'd rather be seeing more in terms of the actual game then stupid junk like extra dialogue, soundtracks, etc, etc.

Considering it's going to be more nonsensical dialogue about some ridiculous future world i can't see the problem.

Moreover, it's just going to be the same old dull RPG format, no real combat despite the immense amount of time battles will take up in the game.
Soo... was anything in this post really necessary? So you hate fiction and you hate RPGs. (Even though you have no basis for saying that about the combat, since you obviously haven't read anything about the games combat.) you don't have to shove it in our face.
Yea the post was necessary in that I was posing the idea that the Final Fantasy series has such poor stories and structure that whether it's available in Japanese or not, it will be just as awful.

I love fiction, I just dislike poor fiction. I don't hate RPGs in general though they are no to my taste.I understand how the combat works in the latest Final Fantasy games; it's barely interactive.
