The 75 Most Iconic DC Comic Covers

To celebrate the venerable publisher's seven and a half decades in the business, a comic book fan site has collected the 75 most iconic DC covers of all time.

Over 75 years and countless issues, plenty has happened in the world of Batman, Superman and the rest of the DC continuity, and to celebrate the publisher's three-quarter century anniversary, CBR [http://www.comicbookresources.com/] has collected the most iconic covers, one for each year.

The list includes titles from the regular DC Universe, as well as the Vertigo line and Elseworld titles like The Dark Knight Returns. Amongst the covers are the introduction of Batgirl, Bane breaking Batman's back, and Superman fighting Muhammad Ali (pictured).

The full list can be seen here [http://goodcomics.comicbookresources.com/2009/11/30/top-75-most-iconic-dc-covers-of-all-time-master-list/]. It's interesting to see all the crazy stuff that's happened in comics over the years, some of it very cool, and some of it unintentionally hilarious.

Some were brilliant, others were kinda meh. Also the order seemed to be almost random but some truly solid entries. The death of super man is my favourite cover

If you wanna see some of the most stupid hilarious covers go to superdickery.com I'm pretty sure that one with Ali is in there. It's SFW.... edit: actually a lot of these covers are made fun of on that site as well.

I lost a whole day to that website, brilliant stuff.

I do love how ridiculous some DC covers were

Where the hell is Batman: A Death in the Family?
How many times has Robin died? You'd think it would start to lose it's effect.

This, and the puppet one, are hilarious XD
I really want to know what the hell happens in the puppet issue. That one is just laughably absurd.

Watchmen no.1 and detective comics no.27 were my 2 guesses for the no.1 spot. I was surprised when they were put at only 7 and 8.

I'm curious about what their criteria were. I've seen my fair share of DC Comics covers from 1990 on, and well...the majority of their choices SUCKED. It's almost as if the same jerks who decided what was "iconic" for SWG work for this company. Maybe if they actually tried reading comics sometime...?

I agree, some of the covers were less iconic and purely chronic.

Where's Constantine? Death? Dial H for Hero? The Dead? Beautiful Stories for Ugly Children? Epicurus the Sage? V for Vendetta?

I don't think that counts; that image is just from the trade paperback and I am reasonably sure the actual comic cover was different.

I remember this one, was walking by and spotted it, and picked it up, knowing something obviously bad was going to happen.
