Nintendo Hires New Ad Agency

Karmarama wins a $13 million deal with Nintendo to serve as its new advertising agency.

Since the successful launch of the Wii, Nintendo has boosted its media spending from $5 million to $13 million. However, after previous advertising agency Leo Burnett, which held the account for seven years, stepped down from its partnership with Nintendo, four more agencies have launched a bidding war to work with Nintendo. Marketing firm Karmarama outbid Vallance Carruthers Coleman Priest (VCCP), Miles Calcraft Briginshaw Duffy (MCBD) and CDP win the $13 million deal.

Karmarama's clients include IKEA, CNN, Diageo, Good Year and The History Channel and is run by a 22-person team that manages a company blog [http://karmarama-stories.blogspot.com/].

The fact that all of those brands are seen as fairly prestigious is a testament to these guys' marketing skill. Or at least they're good enough at marketing to make me think that. I guess that means they're worth $13 million.

I'd turn down Vallance Carruthers Coleman Priest and Miles Calcraft Briginshaw Duffy myself, out of aversion for that kind of foppish company name.

I had the opportunity of working with a Leo Burnett associate in the past, who was involved with a non-US branch. If she was any indication of how things get done there, I assume the end of the partnership was due to outside influences rather than them fumbling the advertising side of business.

I don't know if the nintendo ads are different around the world, but the N64 had some pretty sweet TV commercials back in the day. Bring back whoever did those.

Like the Super Smash Bros. ad, right? That one was amazing.

The <a href=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bjLy6GabB80>smash bros one is good, and I personally like the <a href=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pJ2kwUboLDQ>bad fur day one even more.
But the ones I was talking about seem to have been in australia only. There was a crazy stuntman guy trying to actually reproduce some of the launch games in real life.
i.e. for star wars, he was trying to wrap up a large piece of machinery with a rope by riding around it in circles on a motorbike, or for the mario ad he would try and fight a dinosaur by grabbing its tail and swinging it around. Those ads were awesome.

You do realize that this thread is 3 years old? Personally, I don't think the extra $8 million nor the new agency has helped Nintendo's advertising all that much. >.<

Woops! No I didn't notice that, I just saw it under the hot links at the bottom... for some reason it was under "Latest Content" so I figured it was recent.

I also just got a warning for rezing this thread... well, maybe it shouldn't have been under "Latest Content" then.
