Sony, Nintendo, Trade Trends in Weekly Japan Sales
Nintendo witnessed a slight sales dip in Japan with its DS hand-held, whereas Sony saw some improved sales with its PlayStation 3 console.
DS sales, which fell under 100,000 for the first time this year, still registered at 94,339 - more than four times that of its direct competitor, the PSP, which sold 22,196 units. That number represents a drop of about 4,000 from the previous week.
The PS3, however, enjoyed an upswing in sales and sold 18,068 units. The PS3 sales bump coincided with the release of Bladestorm, of which 58,966 copies were sold.
The turned tables were likely temporary and did not represent any major shifts. 18,068 PS3s were sold whereas the 39,371 Wiis sold over the same period, according to Media Create sales data.
