So, 'Kotick is still out to rape peoples wallets' is the sumtotal of this news post.

Also, has Activision always owned the rights to Angry Birds/ Rovio? That was news to me...
It wasnt all that long ago actually. Rovio had pretty much moved onto Awesomenauts so they sold the rights to the console ports to Activision. The rest you can guess.
Why does everyone DO that?! Selling rights to Activision is an instant death sentence to your franchise. Look at Crash, Spyro, and James Bond! This is going to turn out badly, I'm calling it.

I saw the thread title and was like "Whaaaaaaaa-..."

Then I saw activision was involved in the console release and was like "oh."

This really shouldn't come as a suprise to anyone. Console ports always get ridiculous markups. Plus y'know, Activision.
Selling DLC is pretty much the only reason they still exist.

Nonono you misunderstand.

Rovio still owns the IP and reaps all the profit from thier PC, iOS and Android games.

All Activision is allowed to do is port the games to consoles.

When I heard angry birds was coming to consoles I assumed they would be "branching out" the series so to speak.. Like a 2D platformer with a story etc, but there literally just porting the games and charging hilariously for them.

Naaaaah.

And it can backfire like hell when the not-so-informed crowd who is targeted by this ... honestly: scam, realize that they were ripped off. They will not hate on Activision, but on the franchise. They only see the large brand "Angry Birds".

That's a relief, usually they give the project to one of their studios, and then close it when the game fails to sell, looking around the boardroom in utter wonderment as to why that was...I have a deep-seated anger towards them if you couldn't tell :p
