iPhone Planned as Portal to WoW's Auction House

Every World of Warcraft [http://www.amazon.com/World-Warcraft-Pc/dp/B000067FDW/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&qid=1278969746&sr=1-3]-playing Apple lover's dream has come true: Blizzard plans to integrate Auction House access into the Armory iPhone app.

In a Armory app [http://forums.worldofwarcraft.com/thread.html?topicId=22748781945]. Bornakk posts: "Today, we wanted to give you a heads-up about a new service now in development that will let players access the Auction House directly through the Armory website or Armory App for iPhone or iPod touch ... we're designing the service to offer auction functionality similar to what's available in-game."

Unfortunately, you probably shouldn't expect this feature anytime soon. Bornakk continues by saying that there are "still plenty of details to be worked out." As is always the case with Blizzard, the feature will likely be released "when it's done." "This is a fairly complex service to develop, due in large part to its unprecedented integration with the game, so we don't have an exact release date yet." There will possibly be hints to Blizzard's progress in the development of this functionality as "bits and pieces of the Auction House service [may] pop up in the test builds we use for the public test realms as we go through the process of internal testing," Bornakk revealed.

This announcement is not without a downside, as Bornakk also made it known that "certain elements of the service will be premium-based, which we'll go into more detail on once the service functionality is finalized." My guess is that Blizzard could add another few dollars a month to any World of Warcraft subscriber's monthly fee, or charge per auction (though that just doesn't seem right). Bornakk could also be alluding to something else entirely.

The WoW Armory app is a neat feature, but in my eyes is more of a viewing portal into WoW rather than giving actual access to the game. Auction House functionality through the iPhone would be the first hint of actually stepping into World of Warcraft through a mobile device, in a form anyway. I wouldn't be surprised if some hardcore World of Warcraft players purchase an Apple device just to use this app. Now anyone will be able to look like they're taking care of important business on their iPhone when they're really just trying to unload that horde of snowballs they collected last winter.

Now if they could do that with FFXI...I would be equally as happy

I cannot see this being hacked/abused in some way. Nope.

But even so. That is cool. Now next millenium when I think about buying somthing by apple we'll see what happens. :D

Well since I live in BFE and the only service with iPhones being AT&T, I guess I am out of luck.
HALLELUJAH!
Of course Blizzard is going to charge extra for this service. It ain't that necessary, and Apple's gonna want a piece of their pie as well. I will laugh when it gets shut down a week in from it getting hacked.
I won't laugh when it gives the goldfarmers easier access and drives the price of everything through the roof. Now they won't even have to login to do their shady dealings, making it easier for them to yank all the decent priced items and reposting them at 10x-100x the original bid or buyout.

I wonder if you can use the Auction iPhone app while you are, for example, in a raid. That would make the iPhone a basic must have for any serious WoW player.

Man, this is really getting out of hand. And i thought it was bad when Hot Topic actually decided to start selling World of Warcraft T-Shirts.

What's next? Pet Plushies?

Well, i dunno, i suppose this would be useful if you happened to currently have a monopoly of Gem pricing or something. Otherwise, i view it the same as the Armory App, unnecessary.

Soon there will be World of Warcraft facebook! Then WoWtube.

And finally, WoW-reality shows and a Wow-phone.

WoW will eventually merge with all the things normal people think are obnoxious until it seals itself off from mainstream society.

Given Blizzard's track record... Shortly after 2189, then?

OT - I wouldn't use it because the only Apple product I have is second hand (and almost dead from enduring the punishment of... Being in a pocket...), but it sounds useful. I know a lot of mornings when I played slightly more obsessively started with me checking my auctions, and if I could do that on the way to college, that would have saved some time.

There was already a third-party mod which did that. It was terrible.

This reminds me a lot of the /pizza command in EQ2 where it pulled up Domino's website.

But yeah, like we need WoW to destroy more lives...or Apple for that matter.

Your serious? There was actually a command in an mmorpg that pulled up Domino's so you could get pizza without even leaving the game? Wow... if that's true then wow.. haha.

Though on topic I see this being a bad thing in a way, because now there will be even more people on their phones all the time. I can see some hardcore WoW player pulling out his phone to check his auction while driving and causing an accident.

Everquest aint the best franchise wtf!!??!
But it is a neat feature.
I know in US they got WoW restaurants i remember how i ROFLed at the giant Orc inside the palce it was EPIC :O

Anyway this is a pretty cool efature for ppl who make gold on the Auction House...i guess the app itself will cost couple of bucks. Hope that is it tho.
Its an interesting idea and will certainly move the economy on some realms alot.

p.p: ARTHAS IS COMING TODAY! LETS ALL BECOME KING SLAYERS!

So...the WoW launcher advertised that facebook app today. Your foresight is amazing.

This is going to allow people to control the auction house 24/7, allow people to set up monopolies more easily. I like it!
