Crysis System Requirements Revealed

Crysis [http://www.crytek.com/], and unsurprisingly, premium performance comes at a very high price.

The minimum system requirements are as follows:

OS - Windows XP or Windows Vista
Processor - 2.8 GHz or faster (XP) or 3.2 GHz or faster (Vista)
Memory - 1.0 GB RAM (XP) or 1.5 GB RAM (Vista)
Video Card -256 MB, Nvidia 6800 GT or higher, or ATI Radeon 9800 Pro (X800 Pro for Vista) or higher
Hard Drive - 12 GB
Sound Card - DirectX 9.0c compatible

However, for optimum performance and visual quality, Crytek recommends an Intel Core 2 DUO @ 2.2 GHz or AMD Athlon 64 X2 4400+ processor, 2 gigabytes of RAM and an Nvidia GeForce 8800 GTS/640 "or similar."

"Our vision for Crysis has always been to create the most stunning, immersive FPS experience ever, and we've been working hard not only to do that on the high end, but also in pushing current generation hardware so that everyone gets the maximum experience," said Crytek CEO Cevat Yerli. "And while these specs affect how Crysis will perform now, we have also optimized Crysis so that the game scales forward 1-2 years --we want to make sure that Crysis' gameplay, visuals and performance improves as technology does."

Scheduled for release on November 16, Crysis is based around an alien invasion of Earth during a conflict between the United States and North Korea. The player will take the role of a Delta Force operative equipped with a prototype CryENGINE2 [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Powered_exoskeleton#In_video_games], one of the first to make use of DirectX 10.

That's just sick. A 2.8GHz CPU? What are they using it for? It's a first-person shooter, not Dwarf Fortress [http://bay12games.com/dwarves/].

Well I think they optomized the game to run on duel core, thats why the recommendation is 2.2GHz duel core. The 2.8GHz recommended in the minimum settings is for a single core processor. Buy yeah 2.8 single core is kinda low. I would imagine a 2.8 would be with physics on low. What gets me is that it takes up 12 gigs of hard drive. Thats more then Flight Sim X! What is taking up so much room on there?

That was another point, actually: Laptop chipsets will probably work, but won't be supported.

You want to play this one, kids, you better get out your wallets.

I'm actually quite impressed with the minimums considering how good the graphics are going to be in this game. An Ati 9800pro? That thing is ancient. And seeing as you can get an X1950pro for well under $200can these days the only people who should be complaining are unemployed teenagers who shouldn't be allowed to game online anyway. Noisy little brats. Anyone up for starting an over 25 clan when the game drops?

That's not so bad. My over a year old, mid-range PC should run this adequately. Processor is close to the recommended (AMD 64X2 4200+), I could do with more RAM but hey, wouldn't we all, GPU is low-ish but still a generation above the minimum. I really expected to just maybe boot this with minimum settings, now I'm actually looking forward to this.
