Wolfenstein Movie Held Up By Writers Strike

The script for the planned Writers' Guild of America [http://www.idsoftware.com/games/wolfenstein/rtcw/] strike has put the entire development process on hold.

Roger Avary, who's writing the script and also hopes to direct the film, told the Sci Fi Wire [http://www.scifi.com/scifiwire/index.php?category=0&id=45272], "(he) is almost done with the script and am proud of it, but everything as far as the production date and that kind of thing won't be decided until after this (is) over. And I fully support the strike."

Avary described the movie, based on id Software's [http://www.idsoftware.com] 2001 World War II-based horror FPS, as "a World War 2 old movie of guys who are out on a mission, but this one will have the addition of monsters and horror and a lot of craziness all mixed together. We will start it when it is the right time." He also said that he has researched the paranormal, the U.S. military and the Nazis as part of his preparation for the movie.

Avary's previous credits include writing credits on Pulp Fiction [http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0108399/], for which he won an Oscar for Best Original Screenplay along with Quentin Tarantino.

Actual research? Surely not!

Anyways, no matter who is writing I'm having a hard time believing this can be any good. I'm expecting something along the lines of Resident Evil or Doom at the most. I'd say the most important thing when doing a game movie is to throw out the idea of trying to "be true to the game", take the good bits out of the game's story and go from there.

Like... uh... GunGrave..? Can't really think of another well-done project.

Who knows. If he can mix nazis with bad science fiction, gore, boobies and Brothers in Arms, it could work.

Good thing the movie's in good hands, the last thing we need is for it to be made by the likes of Uwe Boll or--God help us--Micheal Bay.
