What Are They Hiding at Lucasarts?

Lucasarts invited a team from The Escapist to its headquarters at The Presidio, and then pulled every mind trick it could think of to make us feel like unwanted guests.

That's pretty friged up.

Although they may be protecting their "secrets" them making the people that are going to give the pre-thoughts on their game, and then making them feel negative towards it? The frig?

The way they treated you would be a near opposite as to what you'd expect. You'd expect them to be friendly, welcoming and have the best situation possible for you to enjoy the game.

From the looks of it, it was as if Lucas Arts had a quota of information it had to give out, but they niggardly did it in a fashion that made you not want to ask anything more then the quota.

In other words. Lucas Arts. Serious Business.

Well like Admiral Ackbar says LucasArts "It's a Trap". They give you the appearance of warm friendship but instead it's just a cold dictatorship run by George "Franchiside" Lucas

Lucasarts share the building with ILM. In fact many ILM staff are mixed in with Lucasarts staff rather than being on separate floors. Often working together on projects. ILM helps LA with cinematics while Lucas Arts helps ILM with quick pre-vis etc..

They're probably more worried about you catching a glimpse of the new live action Star Wars show or one of the many unannounced blockbusters they're working on.

To be honest, I expected you to say "Without my guest pass I am useless! Without me my guest pass is useless!" somewhere in there.

Oh, and 1st rule about Lucasarts, you don't talk about Lucasarts. You broke said rule, the bouncer types will be there shortly to escort you to an unspecified location.

OT: Perhaps they were developing a game that wasn't about Star Wars?
Maybe they were working on bringing back Grim Fandango?

Ok, I know, unlikely. But hey, I'm a dreamer :)

I'll tell you what they're hiding in there. Real Lightsabers. Also, genetically engineered Ewoks and good games. Like really good games. I'm talking Grim Fandango good. Not Star Wars: [Insert Generic Space Title Here].

Another reason to despise George Lucas.
You know, the older I get, and the more I try to go back and watch Star Wars, them more I really just how crappy the series is.

The only reason I think I like it is because of well...
Lightsabers. They're awesome.
If they didn't exist I think I would've written off the series as garbage from the get go.

But still I give thems my moneys as long as they promise to let me swing a lightsaber in a game.
So I guess I'm the real jerk!

My theory is they're creating the first generation of Jedi warriors. They don't want you to stumble upon the failed experiments.

Articles like this are why I love the Escapist. Thanks.
Agreed. No other gaming site has the journalistic skill or, quite frankly, the balls to print this kind of stuff about a game company. Helps that it makes me laugh too.

Well I am going to lock my doors and remove any and all Lucasart products from my home. God only knows what little tiny microchips are in the manuals. Or on my computer. Watching. Waiting. AHHHHHHHHHHH

An interesting peek into the frustratingly secret world that I will never have a chance to view. I know the feeling you talk about here too. I have done training at a collection agency before and you'd think they secretly scanned your urine in the urinal...wild stuff

What is Lucasarts hiding? The Deathstar, obviously. You think that was a game preview. It was, in fact, a subliminal training exercise for when you are inducted into their vast army of gamers for the Drone Wars. Oh yes, there are many Tarps lying in wait for the unconscious mind. A lightsaber is after all, a cigar which is also a cigar. Don't even ask Freud about The Force.

They must have begun construction on the Death Star already... in that case they have reason to hide their investment from prying eyes... I always knew Lucas Arts was pure evil.

You know what Russ you should have kept asking questions and stuff just to see what they would do to you. Maybe one of the guys would have said "I think it's time for you to leave. Rex would you escort him off the premises." Then some guy that sounds vaguely familiar, but you just can't figure out where from, comes up and tells you to follow him and it's another elevator ride but instead of stopping on the ground floor you go further down, down to sub basement B even though the elevator's panel only goes to A. Rex pushes you out of the elevator into a line of storm troopers, and it hits you that's where you've heard his voice before. So you get dragged down to the firing line executed with blasters some of you gets scrapped up and sent off to the cloning facility, then a perfect copy gets churned out and sent on it's merry way then that fateful day when George Lucas starts his domination of the world you join with the clone army because all those years ago when you died you came back on his side for that very purpose.

...Unless of course that's what did happen and you didn't tell us, oh god everyone run for your lives.

This is the most probable explanation. And let's be honest, all it would take is one slipped rumour or a carelessly unattended memo, and any projects they've been working on is out in the ether. Society has shown us repeatedly that people, in general, are not to be trusted.
