Secret Message Hidden in Witcher 2 Trailer

The sneaky guys at CD Projekt Red slipped a little something special into the promotional trailer for The Witcher 2: A hidden, single-frame message for its "biggest fans," promising bigger and better things for the future of the franchise.

The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings was officially unveiled leak [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/99352-CD-Projekt-Unveils-The-Witcher-2] of an early gameplay video last year, but yesterday's announcement represented the game's "official" unveiling.

But there was a little more to it than met the eye: Hidden in the trailer [http://www.gametrailers.com/video/exclusive-debut-the-witcher/63501] at just over the 2:00 mark was a message to the game's most hardcore fans, those who would "analyze our stuff pixel by pixel, bit by bit," promising in amusingly fractured English that the lessons learned in creating the original game would be put to good use in the new one.

"We are very proud of TW [The Witcher] but let be honest, it was our debut. We never made any game before, and we practically learnt as we worked. So there were many things which could be done better, you know it as good as we," the message says.

"But the vision, the main concept remain the same: Game with mature, captivating and unlinear story, and full of spectacular combat," it continues. "A game created by a team of independent thinkers immune to corporate priorities, who don't care what's trendy at a given moment."

And who apparently know that their fans expect them to do something like hide a message in a game trailer. Is it any wonder why I love crazy Eastern European game studios?

That's actually pretty cool.
I like their mindset and their game. Sure The Witcher had it's flaws but it sure was a unique experience. So hoping for a ncie sequel and that they stay as independent as possible.

Well good on them.

I wish more studios had that mindset.

The first one was great, dispite its flaws. But still, I love it.

Well... here's something you could change for Witcher 2. Shorter loading screens, less grind, more involvement.

Calumon: Zoom Zoom! On a Broom! Zoom Zoom!

I hear they solved the loading time issue in Enhanced Edition, cant say about the other two.

At any rate, why do people complain about The Witchers loading times, and not about Mass Effect 2 load times ><

I spotted that the first time, figured it was SOME kind of viral-marketing-hype-thing. Nice to know I wasn't that far off.

I liked The Witcher, but I just couldn't successfully complete an escort quest in there because the dumb broad kept moving ahead before I could heal and then more uglies spawn and chop her bits off.

Then again, ALL escort quests are like that.

The really broken phonics are hard to read, but still fun. Although, who the hell pours pixel by pixel over things? And how the hell do they have that kind of time?

Those Eastern European guys do this out of love. Pretty awesome. Like the guys at Altar Games who did the UFO: After... trilogy. Props to the Eastern Bloc!

Apparently, loading screens are now few and far between according to a gamespot early preview, and the game seems to be a more action orientated game... whether that means less grinding who knows.

Not sure what you mean by more involvement, its the most involved RPG i've played short of Elder Scrolls.

On topic, looking forward to this... 2011 can't come soon enough.

Man, plus like a million points to CD Projekt Red for this!
I also loved an IGN interview I read with them that was something like:

"What is your take on piracy on the PC market?"
"Piracy? HA! You think you know piracy here in America?!"

Well that is true, not long ago in Polish capital city of Warsaw there was this big bazar (marketplace..hell hard to define it) based on less used stadium where pirated games were just as common as pair of chinese cheap clothes imitating well known marks.

Even earlier there was the Computer and Electronics market where apart from cheap hardwere you could buy copied games of all kinds, and it was semi-legal. Why? Because 20-15 years ago buying a game legally in Poland was hard, there were very few retailers actually selling you original games, you wouldnt be able to get some of the good old classics without just buying a box of FDDs and comming during weekend to a guy that would copy it from his own HDD.

CDP actually was established in '94 and they were among the first to bring official game releases to Poland on CDs, buying it off retailers in US before they actulally established contacts with developers and publishers.

So yeah, piracy in Poland is still a big issue, bit lower than it is in countries closer to 'big mother Russia' but still you can buy cheaply copied games for about 5-10$ from our friends from east on most of marketplaces in most of the cities.

Yeah, I'm not blaming the polish people for a social problem or anything. I was more praising CDP's sort of "Piracy exits we just have to deal with it" stance on game development :)

Yeah imma understands ^^. Just making things clear for the world wide web that seems to only know piracy in form of torrents these days :p After all since '94 they managed to actually become quite a big retailer on polish market as well as taking their steps in game developement so they managed to get through despite the piracy :p

Nice idea to put it in that way, as some sort of hidden easter egg, and if it's true, CD Projekt are officialy my favourite gamedesigners for not being selfcentered egomaniacs on ivory towers.

However, when it turns out they lied, they will feel my wrath...
(I won't buy TW2 and all of it's sequels, mwaha!)

All joking aside, I liked the Witcher, tried to mix things up a bit, but it had it's flaws. But, as the message said, it WAS their first game, so they kinda had no idea what would do good yet...

Yep! I was talking to a Polish guy awhile ago (in 2007) and he said that the Polish economy was really picking up. Though this was before the big economic crash which I imagine effected everyone.

Cool guys and the first game certainly showed amazing potential, let's hope the second uses it and then some.
