Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Future Soldier [http://www.ubi.com], scheduled for release later this year.

The film will be directed by François Alaux and Hervé de Crécy, the directors of the Assassin's Creed [http://www.logorama-themovie.com/] shorts that appeared on YouTube as part of that game's marketing campaign, the Ghost Recon project will be a single, 30-minute film and it won't necessarily debut online.

"The idea is to come out and come out big," said Executive Producer Xavier Poix. "From TV to the internet, all possibilities are open."

"We don't look at it just as a videogame brand," added Producer Adrian Lacey. "For us, it's very much an entertainment brand. Videogames talk to a lot more people than they did a while back. It's a much bigger audience so we're trying to bring more people to it."

Market it all you like - I won't be buying with the DRM in place, and we PC gamers don't even get access to the beta that comes with SC: Conviction.

Shame.

EDIT: In light of the comment below, I will say that the 2 minute teaser of the film is incredible.

Pretty cool. Ubisoft have been talking for quite a while about making movies tied to their games. Hell, they didn't buy Hybride in Montreal for nothing.

Then again, everyone will come to this topic to talk about DRM so don't mind me talking about movies...

A friend of mine pointed out that the design aesthetics from the drones, the armor the soldiers wear, and the cloaking device all come almost directly from Shirow Masamune's Ghost in the Shell/Appleseed.

Sooo, they're ripping off anime's, or Anime is just that prophetic. In either case it looks tits up motherfucking awesome.

This sounds like they're going with an indulgently long *cinematic trailer* for an FPS. Yahtzee is going to have kittens when he hears this.

Off topic : They forgot to mention the movie will be protected by DRM . This means you will get to see 2 seconds then the server will go off . But if you are lucky you will last till minute 25 and then you will get a disconnect and will need to start from the beginning again .

Ubisoft reserves the right of to sue you if you dare click play more than 3 times.

On topic : Now the video is indeed amazing but Ubisoft needs a miracle to make me buy one of their games again after what they did with AC 2. Hope this film marks a new path for them.

Access to Beta with Splinter Cell purchase? Well hot dog! One more reason for me to grab Sam Fisher's newest stealthy adventure! Icing on the cake, really, since I was going to get it anyways.
But the movie is very cool! Especially when that guy got sniped. Awesome.
I look forward to more!

How original, it's not like that idea wasn't already done by Bungie twice, now was it? Oh, yeah, it was.
Except HALO is pure Science Fiction, this is more Post-Cyberpunk.

Will the film pause if it disconnects from Ubisoft's servers?
only if you're watching it on a PC, if you do it on your ps3, you're a-okay

That was a pretty epic video. Makes it all the more sad I won't be playing it on PC as long as Ubisoft maintains their insanity.
On another note, one has to wonder how much Ubisoft stands to lose with the money they had to spend on this, with the good chance of reduced sales. If I could put Academy Award Winner, MPAA on my resume, I would be demanding a very high price even for a 30 minute film.
