Is Joss Whedon Directing the Avengers Movie?

Is the creator of Firefly [http://www.amazon.com/Buffy-Vampire-Slayer-Collectors-discs/dp/B000AQ68RI/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=dvd&qid=1278694185&sr=1-1] going to direct Marvel's premier super-team?

The Avengers movie is going to be the culmination of a ton of different movies, Iron Man, Captain America and Thor amongst them, but who do you chose to direct such a movie?

According to director Louis Leterrier, there is a short list of directors who Marvel may call upon to direct the film, but he didn't know who was actually on the list. The internet [http://iesb.net/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=8898:iesb-exclusive-leading-contender-in-line-to-direct-the-avengers-not-an-april-fools-joke&catid=43:exclusive-features&Itemid=73] on the other hand, has apparently ferreted out one of the names, and it's none other than Joss Whedon.

Obviously today is a day of jokes and pranks, so any rumors that appear today should be taken with more salt than normal, but Joss Whedon isn't all that unlikely, as he was previously attached to the Wonder Woman movie.

We're going to have to wait and see whether this turns out to be true or not, but it's certainly an interesting idea; Whedon has experience directing ensemble casts and could make the Avengers movie pretty damn awesome.

I don't really care who directs the Avengers movie as long as the movie does the "Loki pisses off Hulk" plot. I will be a happy camper.

Seriously though, can't they get a better director like Sam Rami or John Favero. Hell, even Brett Ratner would be better than Joss Whedon.

No Thanks. Whedon has a tendency to reuse character models, and we'll have established character models by the time it comes out. Norton as Hulk is not a witty one-liner character, while Downey's Stark is more about deadly weapons with a smiley face painted on. Thor is looking to set out as a solid action, and Captain America has never really been the most chatty of guys. He's not exactly great when he uses other models other than Wacky/Quirky Dork, Competent but goofy [medium leadership position], and fill everyone else with snarkiness at varying levels of intellect. Pass if off to someone like Sam Raimi, but for gods sake just let him do his thing.

This isn't really a selling point for me. I liked firefly but never saw buffy so this really doesn't change my mind.

The reason Whedon wanted to do a WW movie is because he wrote a graphic novel of the character once and has always found her to be an underestimated character.

I don't know how he'd feel about making a movie like the Avengers.

It seems to me like it's the kind of movie that would not allow for a lot of creativity and would have to be very formulaic involving the soulless "Team of Writers" that are used so often in hollywood.

Second (third?) the fox cancelling thing. Also, even if Firefly/Serenity are the only Whedon directed things you've enjoyed, I think it's probably a fair bet that you really enjoyed them.

As for me, Meh, I liked dollhouse in that I actually watched it (a rarity as I tend to not watch tv), but it wasn't so great I'm going to wet my pants awaiting his next project.
