NCSoft Trademarks City of Heroes 2

Could a sequel to the superhero MMOG be on the way?

MMOG maker NCSoft has filed a notes SuperAnnuation [http://tarr.uspto.gov/servlet/tarr?regser=serial&entry=85004611]. That's pretty much all we know at this point.

While the existence of a trademark (or two) doesn't automatically indicate the existence of a game, it's usually a good sign that somebody at NCSoft is at least thinking about making a sequel to the 2005 MMORPG.

Originally developed by Cryptic Studios, City of Villains [http://www.amazon.com/City-Heroes-Pc/dp/B0001DLLWC/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&qid=1278692460&sr=1-4] are now in the hands of NCSoft's own Paragon Studios. Cryptic, meanwhile, has moved on to other pastures with Star Trek Online and another superhero MMOG, Champions Online.

No word on a City of Villains 2, but if NCSoft does fund CoH2 it's a pretty safe bet that the bad guys won't be far behind.

My bet is that there won't be a "City of Villains" they'll just be the Opposing Faction in the game, so you'll be able to play as the Villains from the get go.

Would be nice if they WOULD toss both factions into one game. One without the other would be both a sign of greed, it would turn off potentially new fans, I would think. Seems like so many gamers now feel like they shouldn't have to pay for an ever-evolving game and its server maintenance, can't imagine too many would not b*tch about having to buy both Heroes 2 and Villains 2. ~_~

Still, I bought Heroes then Villains when it was released-and preferred it, tbh. I just don't want to get gouged again, however, in the "sequel market".

Meh NCSoft have never put out a product that I liked to play for more then a few hours. This will most likely be no different. Although isn't it odd that they are already pushing out a CoH 2? Seems wierd that they would canabilize their playerbase with a sequel when the games only been out a few years.

City of Heroes is just about the only MMO out there I'd hold up to WoW. I'd love to see a sequel, even if I only play it for a month then throw it aside like every other MMO.

I didn't really enjoy CoH/CoV all that much, sure the customisation was pretty good but it really didn't shy away from showing you its grind, it only had about 4 missions in it, got to this building kill everyone, go to this building kill X, go to this building and retrieve X and go to these three buildings and retrieve x y and z, and they were ALL in buildings >.< that and I never saw any reason what so ever that I should ever have grouped with anyone, this is not me being anti social I just never needed to group up to achieve anything.

They should keep rolling with City of Villains, I enjoyed being a mastermind more than anything in City of Heroes.

If they do this they should shut down the CoH Servers. Even if some still have people playing on them the majority are ghost towns.
Only if you're allowed to bring your old heroes across.

I really wish I didn't have to pay $15 a month to play MMOs. As it is I can't play many others.
That said, didn't they just release Champions Online?

Champions online was released by Cryptic (the former owner of CoH/V)

I personally enjoyed CoH/V and wouldn't mind a sequel (but I thought they were working on CoH:Going Rouge?)

NCSoft suck at customer service , game could kick WoW arse for all its worth but NC will drop the ball by ...

Not doing jackshit about RMT spamming
Not do jack about Botting
Do delete complaint posts re the 2 issues above
Do flap its gums all day about what it WILL do, just never do anything.

... going by my experience in Aion, loved the game (most of it) but the constant barrage of spam and bots, followed by promises of bans and highly profiled banning of a few on US servers (didnt see 1 get banned on the EU Spatalos server, not one).
It was a joke, the spammers were using HACKS to by pass the message limits and to add even more annoying characters to make thier spam more of an eyesore.
The bots were on there 24/7 killing every mob in sight irrespective of wether it was a quest mob or not... beating the bot to the kill was usually impossible as the bot was usually way over level for that mob.

... it was a pity, I really enjoyed many aspects of Aion.

Limiting myself strictly to publicly available material: Paragon Studios are making CoH: Going Rogue which part of which includes something called Ultra Mode - an update to the graphics engine which based on the material publicly released is breath-taking. And the publicly released information about the next update for the game itself looks rather promising.

Go here for more info: http://goingrogue.na.cityofheroes.com/en/

As a player, there is very little spam bots on the CoX servers now. Sure some servers are limited in population, but other are rather crowded. They did do something about the spammers and do wield the ban-hammer when needed.

They are in one game. City of Heroes and City of Villains haven't been separated for a while now.

On topic...not sure what I think about this. Therefore, I'm just going to keep meditating on Going Rogue and giggling like a schoolchild while I imagine my heroic Masterminds.

I played CoH for a while and I just didn't feel like a hero you know. I guess its like what Yahtzee was getting at in his review for Conan. I'd love to see a multiplatform superhero/villian RPG released by these guys. I think they could pull it off. Make it like CoH or CoV, like totally open ended. Prototype and Infamous both felt really railroad-y if that makes any sense.
