Fox News Commentator Apologizes for Mass Effect Comments Following Blowback

Faced with a barrage of negative one-star reviews for her book by people who never read it, Cooper Lawrence apologized for hyperbolic comments about a game she never played.

The author and commentator had blasted Mass Effect on Fox News recently for its sexual content but conceded later that she never even played the game.

"I recognize that I misspoke," she said. "I really regret saying that, and now that I've seen the game and seen the sex scenes it's kind of a joke. ... Before the show I had asked somebody about what they had heard, and they had said it's like pornography. But it's not like pornography. I've seen episodes of Lost that are more sexually explicit."

While "asking someone what they heard" about a product apparently passed the low ethics hurdle at Fox News, it did not sit well with gamers, who expressed their outrage by blasting Amazon.com's web page featuring her book with one-star reviews, all of which have since been deleted.

Electronic Arts and BioWare also protested Lawrence's comments in the form of public statements.

Fox News itself issued no apologies.

Maybe because purely false accusations spread like wild fire, and are easier to make.

Feels like a win to me. Just to have her apologise, even if it was forced by the gaming community. Geting a nice warm feeling about it *grins* (maybe its just the tea though).

All I can say about this is that I am very pleased by how the gaming community came together to bring down this nasty lie.

She's just another dumb ***** that just wanted to make her mark. To bad it backfired. hahaha Servers her right for talking about things she knows nothing about.

If any of you watched the FOX News section, 3 or 4 of the people at the "commentary" desk were asked what they thought about the situation. 1 person said they wouldn't allow it in his house for his kids (who is a 8 year old girl, so this dumbass doesn't have a clue), 40+ woman who said games like this shouldn't be released because parents can watch their kids 24/7 (way to teach your kids right from wrong ya moron, you must be a great parent), one girl who was probably about 30 said "what happened to Atari?" (so I wrote her off immediately for not granting a bit of brains to the conversation - and only because she just had nothing to add and sounded like a retard because of it) and the last guy who said it's the parents to monitor what their children play with and watch.

I want to write the last guy a letter and give him a gold star for being a voice of reason, which of course the people who should be listening to him and agreeing, are just sitting there looking at him like "Duh, I like to eat paste"

I am impressed. It's good to see that Ms. Lawrence can, in fact, act like an adult, even if it took all of this to make her do so. I'm glad to see she's not a female Jack Thompson... one is enough, thanks very much.
