I never buy DLCs and probably never will. Reason? I think they add fuck all to original game and are priced like a decent pre-owned game or an expansion pack. No thanks.

I extremely rarely buy DLC, and it's all because of the hefty pricetag. Almost none of them offer any considerable extra content to warrant the price they're asking for it.

I long for the olden days of the expansion packs. Sure, those might cost the same as half the original game, but more often than not they offered enough content to warrant it.

I bet people wouldn't complain that much about DLC (Note: Large DLCs) if they were marketed as expansion packs.

I'm part of the 49%. I think DLC is a rip-off and that my money could be better spent buying other games such as a PS1 classic off the PSN.

The only DLC I am tempted of buying is for Deus Ex HR. But I am cautious about that, if it is not a significant amount of missions/gameplay I will be extremely pissed. Plus if it is a ripoff it'll ensure I never buy DLC again.

I do buy dlc for games I really love (for example I had both add ons for me1, all of the extra mission packs and characters for me2, all the extra maps for gears of war 2, and all of the extra packs for borderlands although this was with the goty edition).

I am also considering getting the gears of war 3 season pass. So I guess I am a bit of a sucker for DLC if it extends the life of my games, even though I don't have that much gaming time anymore.

I however, have not downloaded any of the packs for dragon age 2, but might someday once I am done with the main game.

The full game IS the demo for the DLC. If you enjoyed the full game, here's more of it. If you didn't enjoy the full game, you probably won't be into the DLC either.
That falls apart under casual scrutiny. DLC doesn't always provide the same content as the original game.

Yeah really, the only game I have purchased DLC for was Dragon Age: Origins. The actual buying part was easy, but getting it installed was a lot more difficult. First the game had to recognize that I purchased the DLC, which it's own servers had a problem with. THEN, the game had to decide to download the DLC and install automatically, it did not seem to allow me to do it manually, which just irked me, because I wanted to have it all installed before I even played the first area of the game. Some of these problems were technical in nature, and strictly on their side, but still made setting up the DLC difficult, and to a non experienced user, I could easily see them viewing it as "complicated"
Woooow. Though again, that's less storefront and more EA being morons about the way the content MUST be integrated.

They would rather a million people have difficulties than one person play without paying.

I just can't afford DLC, not to mention I only ever buy it for games that are worth it, like I'm hoping to get all of the Fallout: New Vegas DLC or Dragon Age: Origins DLC one day. I don't really mind paying out sometimes, like needing to buy the original Alice to go with Madness Returns because I got it pre-owned.
Spending money on gun skins and things like that baffle me however, especially when they're massively over-charged.

DLC is overpriced crap 99% of the time. The other 1% is shit that should have been included with the game and some clown decided to rip it out and sell it separately to moronic free spenders who can't understand they are being ripped off, taken advantage of, and helping to support a terrible system.

Once again this picture tells the whole story:

Pretty much this... And not enough horse armour.

I have to admit that I base my DLC purchases on the specific console the game is on.

I plan in advance as to which console to buy the game for. If it's going to have DLC I want (Skyrim, Deus Ex: HR, etc) I'll but it for the Xbox 360. If it's likely to NOT have DLC I want (Multiplayer maps, etc) then I'll get it for the PS3.

Reason? Beacuse I don't trust Sony with my bank details any longer.

Besides, I rarely seem to play DLC that much any more. I bought Old World Blues for New Vegas and still haven't completed it. Same with Undead Nightmare for RDR.

Whatever happened to the days of Medal of Honor: Allied Assault? That game had two whole single player expansion packs available. Now you'll be lucky to even get the whole game with a day one purchase.

Just goes to show: If you hit someone repeatedly in the head with a hammer enough times, and over a long enough period of time, they'll... probably die. But IF THEY DON'T, then they'll stop minding it. Probably because they'll have suffered so much brain damage they will not longer be able to feel pain, but that's not the point.

I hate buying map packs but some DLC I will buy. If its first day DLC and on computer then I may "unofficially demo" it.

Is this the thread where we rail against DLC with unmitigated rage and blind hatred? Yeah!

OT: It depends on the game. I never picked up any DLC for New Vegas because they can't be bothered to put out a game that isn't buggy. Lair of the Shadow Broker (ME2) was worth every penny.

I have had a PS3 for a year and still have not bought DLC, or downloaded anything other than my 2 free games after the Network crash.

I don't know why too be honest, I'm probably a combination of a few of the things listed.

The reason they have DLC is because it's almost impossible to Pirate, Exact reason Hardware and Developers went to the consoles instead of PC.
