So, if 4chan never intervened with the polls, would that have meant Jon Stewart would have been the Person of the Year? What exactly did he do to earn that, besides calling out Fox News on it's bullshit frequently?

Actually, I'd say that's more than enough to earn the title. Go Stewart!
Jon Stewart is only on the list because his name starts with a J, which is required to spell KJUGASCHAMBERS. Everyone on that list is only there in the place they ended up because of the first letter of their names. Except our Grorious Reader, ofc.

Is it just me or is his hair 3 sizes too small?

Because North Korea is, of course, best Korea.

This isn't new, Hitler has won this same reader poll in the past. It's not supposed to be about who has had the most positive impact on the world this year, but simply the MOST IMPACT, if I'm not mistaken.

4chan you have failed us.

I think people misunderstand when it comes to most important person and Time Magazine. It's an opinion based poll that is not a popularity contest. The most important person is the person that people feel have had the greatest impact on society. That is why people like Hitler and Stalin win these things. It's the person with the greatest impact on society. This person is not usually good, but they can be. Now on to the biggest question: Why did they do this? Just to do it? That seems stupid.
Actually Hitler was amazingly popular before World War II and even had a huge following in the US up, and even during the war, which is one of the reasons why such draconian measures were taken with US security and in terms of information control and propaganda.

Hitler is so quotable, because he was right about 99.9% of the things he said, it was that 00.1% that was bug nuts crazy that snuck up on people. He was able to get people that otherwise hated each other to pretty much fall into line behind him and his regime. Today people like to quote hitler, showing it to be similar to what someone else says, hoping it coutns as a "win", missing the point that Hitler was simply right about that many things.

Incidently the global love for Adolf is one of the reasons so many people who believe in such things agree he was the second Anti-Christ. An Anti-Christ is not some demonic figure that drops a sauron-like shadow accross the world, but someone who rallies the hearts and minds of the people in general and gets them to love him before he fully shows his stripes.

This is also why despite the rhetoric, the people who actually believe that stuff don't consider either Bush or Obama to be on that list. Both came into power on hairsbreadth elections and faced major, constant opposition, neither are thus Anti-Christ material.

Kim Jong Un wouldn't fit for either "Person Of The Year" or "Anti-Christ" (which I'm just mentioning for fun) because globally speaking he's pretty well hated. Some might fear him, but he had no real respect from anyone. He continues to exist because it's easier to occasionally pay him off than step on him, though to be honest that might be changing if his current plans go forth. Right now we have a weak, and ineffective joke of a president when it comes to international and military policy, which means he's been making big moves as far as rocket technology and nuclear power go because he knows Obama will never sent the military in to stop him, giving him 4 years to pretty much run rampant. That's why it's kind of funny.

Stalin is an interesting case, being both hated and venerated by the people he oppressed (even if some will deny this). The bottom line is that "The Steel Angel" saved Russia from communism. After the great uprisings you wound up with a basic situation where nobody wanted to go back to work and do what was nessicary to run society. Everyone interpeted communism as "contribte what you want to society and be provided for" so you wound up with all the people doing hard work putting down their tools and wanting to live easy lives and be provided for, that's what they were promised and what they fought for. To put it bluntly when Stalin took power Russia was falling apart and the people were starving. His Gulags were basically re-education camps that used extreme methods (including torture) to turn people into obeidient workers, loyal to the state. Stalin's basic idea was that socialism was nessicary, as communish wasn't workable, he didn't want to kill anyone specifically, but figured anyone who wasn't willing to work was pretty much useless, he didn't care if 99% of the people who went into the camps died, as long as the 1% that came out went on to become good little socialist drones. The horror of this is obvious, but it's important to understand something, Stalin's steely heart not only saved Russia, but turned it into a global super power, even the remnants of which can't be ignored today. He took a broken, starving, people with no direction and literally built an empire. It's not popular, even with Russians... but well... it is an example where you can see why he'd be "Person Of The Year" based on his accomplishments.

In comparison Kim Jong Un and his daddy might both be crazy, psychotic, megalomaniacs, but really they haven't done much but create a horrible oppressive police state, that largely only gets by through occasionally blackmailing the rest of the world. Stalin build an oppressive regime and was a world mega power, North Korea is pretty much a global joke. Like it or not Stalin did great things... terrible things, but great none the less... (to paraphrase Olivander from "Harry Potter" in regards to Voldemorte)
Haha, look at that. Therumancer to the fuckin' rescue. Nice information in there. Thanks for the reminder about Hitler. I did a report on Hitler high school and after some digging found out some of that information. I have my world history teacher to thank for that. I did a paper originally in the normal vein people think about Hitler (aka. WWII and what lead up to his taking power and forming the third reich). But it wasn't good enough for good old Mr. Smith (that was really his name, blows me away because he was anything but your standard run of the mill teacher). He made me dig. But it's easy to forget all the information that doesn't concern the monster, and only concerns the man. Gazzaniga wrote a short stint on perception and used Hitler as a fine example. People generate reactions of genuine surprise when you say statements like, "Hitler loved kitten". The image of Hitler everyone carries around doesn't fit that, so they show genuine surprise when someone says it to them. The image promoted about Hitler fits more into the, "Hitler love to eat kittens". No one can defend him for what he did, but to assume he was always some vile monster and had no tendencies that made him very human is just ridiculous. Of course, I never knew people considered him to be the "anti-christ". Makes sense though.

*An* Anti-Christ. According to the prophecies from people like Nostradamus there are supposed to be three of them. The nature of an Anti-Christ is such that they generally won't be recognized until after the fact. Going by the specifics of prophecy and the things they were supposed to do, it's commonly accepted by people who seriously follow this kind of thing that Napolean was the FIRST Anti-Christ, and Hitler was the second. Both were extremely charismatic and well loved leaders with global followings who came close to taking over the world and wiped out sizable parts of the world population.

The THIRD Anti-Christ has yet to come if you believe those two were accurate, but he's supposed to be due to rise to power "soonish". He's supposed to be "greater" than the other two combined. Basically some leader who will be globally loved by like 90% or more of the human race, who will do all these great things, and then apparently go totally batshit insane in a way his billions of followers won't even think about due to being enthralled by him, and wipe out billions and billions of people.

The idea is that towards the end of his reign we're supposed to get The Second Coming, and Jesus will return to confront the Anti-Christ, and in doing so will open the seven seals bringing about the tribulations and the end of the world.

They have done specials on and such, and understand that while a lot of people believe this, it's not "straight" Christianity since it goes into prophecies by guys like Nostradamus.

Just explaining it in more detail. I mostly brought it up because the whole "Man Of The Year" (or now "Person Of The Year") thing is a global popularity contest when you get down to it... assuming it works as intended. I thought of the whole anti-christ thing simply because one of the commonly agreed upon anti-christs was a winner. The point was also kind of that everyone knows Jim Jong Un is a monster, when Hitler won it was before that side of him came out on any kind of large scale. Before the world war, people forget how utterly popular he was, having won legitimatly, and that's kind of how he gets the whole anti-christ recognition along with some of his deeds retroactively fitting prophecies.

I think if there is ever a third Anti-Christ (well if anyone agrees on him, hard since to do that retroactively by the concept and what he was supposed to do) he'd have the "Person Of The Year" nomination, but it wouldn't be a joke by 4-chan. :)
