Trine 2 Coming Next Year

Great news for platformer fans: Frozenbyte [http://www.atlus.com/] have announced that Trine 2, the sequel to last year's captivating tale of a wizard, a warrior and a thief, is coming in 2011.

Two things I want to make clear: I don't like platformers and I never refer to anything as a "captivating tale" without a heavy dose of irony. But Trine 2 [http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Dvideogames&field-keywords=%22Trine%22&x=0&y=0] is on the way.

The new game will reunite the three characters from the original game in an adventure through a similarly fantastical world, with some enhanced powers this time around: The wizard can now pick up and manipulate enemies while the thief will have the ability to slow time. An even bigger change will be the addition of online and local co-op play, which will let three players team up to face the game's challenges together.

Trine 2, which will also feature giant mushrooms, a greedy toad and 500 percent more rainbows, is slated for digital release sometime in 2011, "likely" on the PlayStation Network, Xbox Live and various PC digital distributors. Oh, and there's a dragon, too. For more information, which is pretty limited at this point, have a look at the official site at trine2.com [http://www.trine2.com].

The link to the original Trine doesn't go anywhere...which is unfortunate, because I'm really interested in it now. Never heard of it before, but I love platformers and this sounds fantastic :)

Works fine for me. Anyway, just hit www.trine-thegame.com [http://www.trine-thegame.com] and you'll be all set. And yes, it is fantastic. Honestly, I hate platformers but this one has so much charm and such amazing environments that it just sucked me in - and luckily, the difficulty level is also adjustable so people like me can still enjoy it. I played on medium and found it just challenging enough that I had to work for it but I didn't get frustrated. Honestly, if you like the genre you really should check it out.

It's also pretty cheap, 20 bucks on Steam [http://store.steampowered.com/app/35700/] these days.

I think it's also kinda hilarious that it's from the same studio that came up with Shadowgrounds and Shadowgrounds Survivor, two awesome, ridiculously violent top-down shooters that rocked my world a couple years ago. How the same studio managed to come up with these two games is completely beyond me.

HELLS YES, coop had me and my friends in stitches, shooting out platforms from beneath the wizards feet and watching them die, never got old, that and being the theif and spidermaning each level was so much fun.

Trine? Atlus?

Excuse me, I think I'm having a seizure. The good kind, out of joy. Gotta get me a napkin...

I don't care about Atlus so much, I'm just glad to see Frozenbyte is still making it. Those guys have the touch.

And I completely forgot to mention that the latest patch for the PC version of Trine not only removes the DRM (which was actually a part of the last patch) so you can install it and then just plink away at it whenever you like without having to have the disc in, but also includes a brand new DLC level, Path to New Dawn, totally free. That's right, they're giving this shit away.

I just love Frozenbyte so much.

Big fan of the first one, personally and this one looks like it improves upon it. So I'll be looking forward to that.

Looks like a great co-op game, I can't believe I completely missed the first one and it's made in Finland too, I have to get it right now!

edit: I have it and I tried it a bit, my platform of choice is the PC and there's very few games I could play together with someone else at that same PC, this is one of them and it's most beautiful and fascinating too, and will be very nice to play with my two wireless xbox 360 controllers. (Otherwise only used for SFIV and Virtua Tennis 3)

I bought Trine a while back when it was on sale on Steam.
I imagine Trine 2 will only improve on the original formula, so I'll gladly buy the game as soon as it comes out this time.
Everybody should try the original.

Loved the first one - the story was a little simpler than I'd have liked, but the atmosphere and music were amazing and the gameplay was pretty solid. I'm definitely looking forward to number two and can't wait.

I've been playing the first one (got it for $4 during the big Steam sale!) and loving it. The sequel looks like it's going to be even more amazing - I'll probably even pay full price for it!
