I hated this quest. I did manage to do it in one try (one level over suggested level) but it was no fun I assure you. I'm up to level 31 on my ranger...*cough* I mean hunter. I started the game all because of this story and so far I like it. Thanks Shamus for the funny story and for the introduction to LOTRO.

My hunter was running up and actually setting traps around the guards, so as soon as they woke up. *SNAP*

Still was boring.

Seriously Turbine, this is a game about PCs, not dumbass NPCs letting you play in their tale.

Nearly stopped me playing at the moment because I'm sick to death of the NPC showboating/griefing/ganking.

When I did this on my hunter, they attacked the poor old lady instead of the bow wielding Killing machine and forced me to repeat the quest way too many times... It was a long day

ahh I can't wait to see what shamus does when he gets to angmar and finds out who she really is, if he gets that far anyways. Cause its gonna be EPIC

i miss that Lotro, Shadow of Angmar had such a better story and raids then MoM or SoM. Might play through the game again when it goes FTP since the FTP is only to 50. More raiding then. :D

hopefully they'll have a nice community like they do now :X

See, at least in World of Warcraft, escort quests are far and few. Not counting the Caverns of Time instances (which following the the escort model number two), I've found three: one that involves a troll [http://www.wowhead.com/quest=2742] that tells you a secret [http://www.wowhead.com/quest=2782], a tauren that does something unheard of in escort quest (RUNS!) [http://www.wowhead.com/quest=9752] and a priest who heals you and [http://www.wowhead.com/quest=13481] who will smite enemies while escorting you! [http://www.wowhead.com/quest=13482]

Brilliant, and nice to see the humour flowing a little more freely again. Shamus really has a way with sarcasm that I quite enjoy!

Haha, there is a very good reason why "Sara Oakheart" needs her "walking stick", won't spoil it though =p

Yeah, there are far more than three escort quests in WoW, JT. People just tend not to DO them because they're escort quests.

I mean hell, you didn't even list probably the most notorious WoW escort quests, those involving the mecha-chicken developed out of Booty Bay. The turtle you have to walk from one end of Tanaris to the other isn't particularly fun, either. It'd probably be a safe estimate to say there's an escort quest in at least one of every five enemy camp type areas you find, if you look for it. They're thankfully easy to overlook/ignore, though, most of the time.

I don't recall this particular escort quest being all that difficult, really, either on my warden, champion or burglar, but those are all close combat classes. I can see how a minstrel might have a hard time with it (unless you can heal Sara?). Her GA escort could be a serious pain, though (if I hadn't been doing it at 65...>.>).

Just wait for the escort quest in book 9. It will earn her your internal wrath :)

Wow. Shamus, I've been just sort of nodding along before when you've said that the folks at Turbine are griefers at heart, but this... this takes the cake. The fact that Oakheart bolts for the door at the end is just jaw-dropping. Maybe Turbine has a Nazgul working on the quests.

Well, when I did the book 9 escort quest, (I was reading about Lulzy and I remembered my warden's escort quest), and Sara Oakheart transformed into Amarthiel, I LOLED so hard. and then I went LMAO when I read this, because it seemed funny to think Amarthiel was disguised as a puny Old Lady who needs her "Walking Stick" to get out of a cave with Brigands trained so badly my LM could kill them all in one blow :D LMAO

Question. Since she is apparently some sort of evil undead... thingy in real life, what happens if you fail the escort quest? Can you just shrug and say, "Welp, oh well!" and leave? I'm guessing not. What is the penalty for failing the escort quest?

(And my first impulse was to say that that staff must be made of Xanthian reverse wood to help her move so fast!)

So, apparently Bandit Leader Skunkweed stinks at combat vs. Lulzy, hmm?

Wait, really? That's one of the easiest quests in the game. You just stand way back and let her do everything. Hell, getting to the quest to start it is more difficult than the quest itself.

I just did this quest over the weekend on a new alt loremaster I've started recently, and all I could think of for most of the quest was "I wonder what Lulzy will be saying about this on Wednesday". Loved reading this episode!

Also, on a related note, the first time I ever encounted Sara myself in-game was with my first character, a hobbit burglar, in a pickup group doing the escort quest in Fornost. At that time I didn't understand the intense hatred several of the group members displayed to her. Now a couple of years later, having escorted her in many situations on several characters and having done the Vol. 1 quests with her twice (and partly through on a third run now).... god but I hate that woman. Even her final scene does not make up for her overall annoyance level.

And yet part of me wants to praise whatever evil genius at Turbine thought her up. Making a nemesis that the players actually come to truly hate is not an easy task.
