Remedy Confident of Alan Wake Sequel

Despite no official word from Microsoft, Remedy's Oskari Hakkinen is optimistic that his studio will be starting work on Alan Wake 2 very soon.

Much like the game itself, the future of Alan Wake seems shrouded in mystery, and as yet there has been no official confirmation of a sequel. But Remedy's Oskari Hakkinen says he is hopeful that Microsoft will use its option for a sequel soon, even though the publisher seems more focused on downloadable content.

Hakikinen says that Remedy was contracted to do two downloadable episodes, but that Microsoft is pushing for more: "There's been some discussions on it. Nothing's been confirmed. More discussions on the Microsoft side, they've been interested in more downloadable content and doing further episodes ... Where we're sitting right now is we'll see how these go. We'll see how the attach rate is to the episodes ... If that attach rate is then reasonable, I think we can look at maybe doing some more specials."

Hakkinen is confident however, that a sequel will happen, and believes that Remedy could make it much more quickly than the first: "Max Payne 1 took us also five years to make. Max Payne 2 took us 18 months. I think we'd be looking at something of a similar cycle."

"We're still in launch phase of Alan Wake 1...but Microsoft have an option for [a sequel]. That was in the deal a long time ago...and I don't see why they wouldn't. We're happy with the partnership and they're happy with the game. I think it fits in their portfolio quite nicely. I don't see any reason why we wouldn't continue with Microsoft and why we wouldn't renew the IP...we definitely want a sequel of course."

Broken code all over that post, Logan.

On topic:

From my understanding, the sales weren't too bad either. Not fantastic considering the amount of hype and adspace they promoted it with, and still are advertising in some places.

Also: Does MS or Remedy own the rights to the "Alan Wake" brand?

I am glaad to see they will be working on a second one.

I did enjoy it, and, I would love for them to go back, fix what didnt work, and make the second one just as shiny!

I still need to finish the original, but I keep putting it off even though it's a fun game.

I think Remedy own the rights for the brand itself, but Microsoft has exclusive rights to it being on their platforms.

Like it says at the ends of the credits,"Alan Wake's journey through the night shall continue." So, let's hope. Really awesome game!

It said the exact same thing at the end of Max Payne 2, and instead Remedy sold the rights to the series to Rockstar, who are now making it into something that could not possibly be called a sequel. Then they killed Max off in Alan Wake (the Alex Casey bit).

I agree that Alan Wake would do well on PC and I thoroughly enjoyed it on 360, cannot wait for episode 7 on DLC! Really really want a sequel but hey will have to some work on the enemy variation and combat mechanics, it did get very samey even though I loved it.

Lol, nice.

But on topic, I couldn't want a sequel more than I want this one (well, unless Capcom were to strike Resi 4 and 5 from the record and go back to the original gameplay and story style, but even then I would still only be AS excited rather than MORE). Heck, the DLC has me excited enough. For me, I have very much the same feeling as I get when I see a season of an awesome tv show and just can't wait for the next season. There are so many little things left to be explored in the Alan Wake universe, and frankly a sequel can't come soon enough for me :)

I don't think any of them actually bought it for 360, assuming it would eventually hit PC as has been the case of late with MS' deals.
Actually, very recently, the time it's taken for the big titles (read: hugely advertised) they've published to hit PC has been really long if we're going to see them there at all. Gears of War 2? Still waiting for that. Halo 3 and ODST? No sign of those. Fable II? Probably will never get it, Fable III they did promise for the PC.

Though there's still a chance the PC will get some of those, who's going to wait years for a possible port?
