Pop Goes the Creepy In Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood CE

The main attraction of the Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood collector's edition is far from the average behind-the-scenes DVD.

collector's edition [http://www.amazon.com/Assassins-Creed-Brotherhood-Xbox-360/dp/B003L8HQ7S/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&qid=1281382682&sr=8-5], it'll also bring a lot of fright due to a just-revealed creepy inclusion.

The Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood collector's edition will include two exclusive single-player maps, a strategy map of Rome, an art book, and a bonus DVD with making-of features. Sounds pretty normal right? Did I mention the oh my god it's creepy Jack-in-the-Box? Oh, right, that's included too.

Gamestop [http://www.gamestop.com/Catalog/ProductDetails.aspx?Product_ID=78690#Screenshots] gets an exclusive Jack-in-the-Box containing Brotherhood's Harlequin multiplayer character, which will pop out while duel-wielding knives. Other retailers get the Doctor Jack-in-the-Box, which just has a creepy mask and syringe.

If you're trying to stop a child from sleeping at night, you can't go wrong with either version. Sadly, both Jack-in-the-Boxes appear to open with keys, instead of the classic, fun crank turn. At the same time, I'm kind of glad these characters are locked up because I know they won't be able to get out should they come to life.

The Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood [http://www.amazon.com/Assassins-Creed-Brotherhood-Collectors-Xbox-360/dp/B003YMV2G2/ref=sr_1_10?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1281381489&sr=1-10] collector's edition will be released on November 16 and retail for $99.99.

Oh man, that's going right next to my Spiderman Jack-In-The-Box that plays the theme when you wind it.

That's a contender for best CE exclusive item ever.

Too bad I can barely afford the regular edition. This will probably be a rent for me.

Dang... I want that Jack-in-the-Box, but it will be a cold day in hell before I buy Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood.

All the extras are completely superfluous to me. When I buy a game, I want said game, not a bunch of novelty crap.

That is pretty awesome. Though the "Plague Doctor" jack looks a lot cooler

Man...if only it wasn't just more Assassin's Creed 2...I'm not really interested in Multi-player, so there seems to be little innovation to spark my purchase.

Curious, but ultimately pointless.

Wake me up when there's something to compare with the Bioshock 2 CE.

As I'm still slightly torn by this game (on the one hand, it's more Ezio but on the other hand it's still a little too soon for more AC for this too feel like anything other than "2.5" so far and there's multiplayer) it's still going to be just the vanilla edition for me.

Cool extra, though they are definatly charging for it.

As it is I will not be buying any Ubisoft games due to their DRM policies, and I was never a big fan of "Assasin's Creed" to begin with. I passed on "The Settlers" because of their DRM, and I'll pass on anything else they make until I'm sure they have changed their ways.

I actually encourage other people with strong feelings on DRM and what they pulled with "Assasin's Creed 2" always beeing to be online to do the same. Even if the game is awesome and your dying for an "Assasin's Creed" fix, you'll probably benefit more from not buying it in the long run if they eventually release a DRM free version.

Of course if Ubisoft already dropped their DRM this might not be a fair post, however if it happened I somehow managed to miss the massive celebration.

Oh and the lack of a crank gets my attention as well, while a neat collectible, I'm guessing these are going to be fairly cheap because they are probably just a couple of spring up dolls inside a box. The crank and music box elements are what make Jack In The Boxes fairly "expensive" at places like "San Francisco Music Box Company".

I say this (going by the description) because with rare exception whenever you hear about something this seemingly cool, it's usually a rip off nowadays. I still remember the whole "Batman: Arkham Asylum" schtick where the Batarang turned out to be a cheap piece of plastic someone at the factory apparently scratched up with their keys to make it look like "it was used in battle against killer crock!" (uh huh). This after most of us (including me) were lead to believe it was going to be a metal replica.

Not sure how the nightvision goggles panned out from "Modern Warfare 2" but I don't hear much about them being used, or a rash of game-nerds being caught prowling around at night with them making people go "wtf".... which probably would have happened due to the sheer numbers that appear to have been sold.

Argh! I'm getting so sick of this! Why can't America and Europe get the same CE'S anymore?! Ok our AC:B CE is pretty nice too but...argh. Same with Dead Rising 2. So, by my count that makes four variations of an AC Brotherhood CE. *sigh*

Ubisoft are getting quite shameless in their pandering to the Batman crowd. And dammit if it's not working, I want that!

Is there any way to get the making of DVDs à la carte? I don't want to spend a hundred bucks for a terrifying box, but I always shell it out for soundtracks and interviews.

While I would absolutely love that, I'm not convinced by Brotherhood. I just seems a spin off. The game will likely be a rental, because I love the Assassin's Creed gameplay, but I'm not interested enough to buy it.

Must not apply Toy Story logic...

oooh! making of videos! I'll be sure to buy the more expensive edition for some videos that totally won't be uploaded to youtube within weeks of it coming out.

that aside, i do love making of videos and developer commenteries. i expect all of this stuff to be avalible as dlc and posted on the internet (and the jack-in-the-box to be sold on ebay for ridiculous prices.

I'd buy it without a mask and syringe...

Wouldn't have him jump out of my box. It's not even blue.

Other than that: Phew, I thought that "creepy" was about gameplay.

.... Why?

What does a doctor and a jester have ANYTHING to do with the game?
AC2 is set during Renaissance Italy, so throughout the game there were plague doctors every few streets or so if you wanted to be healed, and as for the jesters, they were blowing fire and performing tricks and stuff during a Carnival section.

So...not entirely unrelated, but yeah.
