EA Casual Unveils Monopoly Details

Monopoly [http://www.ea.com]currently being developed by its casual games division.

As part of last year's deal between EA and Pogo.com [http://www.hasbro.com]. Featuring four-player gameplay and a "party twist," the new take on the old game features faster gameplay that eliminates waiting, instantly recognizable cities and landmarks from around the world, brand new game boards and interactive mini-games in either offline single or multiplayer action.

"EA is taking Monopoly's core gameplay and bringing it to life in a way never before imagined," said EA Casual Vice President Chip Lange. "With this dynamic take on Hasbro's classic board game, we've accelerated the pace of play, added new interactive mini-game sequences and integrated multiplayer moments designed to make Monopoly a non-stop party for the whole family."

"It promises to be a very exciting fall for Monopoly fans worldwide. EA has done a tremendous job of re-imagining the world's most popular board game by remaining true to the traditional gameplay that millions of consumers have come to love while also creating new digital twists that can only be achieved in an interactive world," added Mark Belcher, Hasbro's general manager of digital media and gaming. "Rolling the dice and passing go will never be the same."

EA Casual's new Monopoly videogame is set to release across all platforms in conjunction with the worldwide launch of a new, updated version of the board game this fall.

Heh, I misread the title, I thought this was an article about how EA was finally coming clean and announcing that they intend to monopolize the gaming industry. But no, still in the closet.

I thought that as well; but I look forward to the Monopoly FPS where you have to collect rent off a battleship, with only your trusty Scots Terrier.

Why are they bringing a board game to the state of the art consoles? How much hardware do you need to run Monopoly? Unless they include a feature where I can reach across the board and slap the AI player who decides to sell that one last railroad to the other AI player just to spite me.

Hey, I remember when the 3d PC version of Monopoly was one of the things we had that absolutely crippled the home computer I had. Granted, this was for moronic animations of the game pieces and unnecessary lighting effects, but still. Me, I'd love to see a monopoly game incorporate some of the "spastic wiimote flailing" or utilize rumble and particle lighting effects needlessly on the 360.

Oh, and chalk up another one to "read the title and snickered".

Pokemon Monopoly rocks. I certainly hope they faithfully re-create that version, instead of boring, old 'OMFG-YOU-SUX-AS-A-BANKA-MEL! STOP-STEALING-FROM-THE-CACHE! I-WANT-WATERLOO-BACK!'oply.

Edit: Isn't the combination of 'Causal' and 'Monopoly' a bit of a oxymoron?

Stealing some information from Wikipedia, among other sites: Windows-based PC, Macintosh, Game Boy, Game Boy Advance, Sega Genesis, Commodore 64, NES, SNES, N64, Playstation, and Game Boy Color and the thinly disguised variant Monopoly Party on PS2, Gamecube, and XBox
