Modder Creates Amazing Dreamcast Handheld

It's impressive enough to create a hand held Dreamcast, but when it looks this good, it's downright astounding.

The Dreamcast might not have survived its battle with the PlayStation 2, but the ill-fated console still holds a very special place in many gamers' hearts. This makes modder Techknott's incredibly professional looking Dreamcast handheld doubly exciting, not just because of how good it is, but also because it's always great to see the console getting some love.

The handheld combines the innards of the console itself, a whole controller, a built in VMU (the Dreamcast's memory card), disc drive and a screen. It can also be connected to a TV, and has space to plug in another VMU, as well as a SD card which is presumably for loading homebrew. It's a very impressive modification, and really, the only downside is that we can't all have one.

You know what I think? Sega should contact the guy, find out how he did it, and put a limited number into mainstream production.
And develop a couple of "new" games.
And then I can go fly away with Tinkerbell and Peter Pan to Neverland. *sigh* Ah well.

That is firstly a great achievement in itself to compress the console like that but also the fact it looks good (if chunky, but that's to be expected) is excellent.

(In ten years will we be talking about someone who did this to a 360?)

People make remake consoles all the time, like the Retro Duo or the FC Mobile II. I wonder if there is an issue with this guy selling these on a website?

I would buy one, that thing is badass. Do Want.

Thought it was going to be one I had seen before, but it's not. Gratz to him, I should try to make one sometime.

Hmmm.. I'm not even a huge Dreamcast fan, and I would so buy one of these. Maybe then I could finally get that one item I'm missing in Power Stone 2 *cries*

thus proving the fact that Dreamcast will never die, it's just too badass of a console for that kind of silly things

I think a PSP has better graphics hah. But still, good effort. Very good mod. I just don't see the use...

You have any idea how he did it? How did he fit a controller, a screen, and all bits needed to play the game in a package that looks like it is smaller then just the original console?

I would probably buy one if I could. That is, it all depends on whether or not I could dig up the games from that Dreamcast I had back in the day...

I forsee a downside....a very large, very irritating downside.

When playing a handheld, we tend to push the buttons a bit harder when excited or frustrated...this leads to jolts through the handheld. Since this has a disc drive on it, it's likely to crash or skip or freeze up because of it.

We're talking about making something handheld, that's just modding it into a laptop case, and from the pics it looks like one of those fat gaming laptop cases which aren't that much thinner than the 360 slim.
